I was browsing the web when I cam across this:
http://d.yimg.com/a/p/afp/20091006/capt.photo_1254837533085-1-0.jpg

I know it has a toyota badge, but it has a Subaru 2.0 Liter engine. I just wanted to post this up to see what you guys thought about it, here is a little article on it

if toyota and subaru start putting out cars that are the same with different badging like "toyota matrix and pontiac vibe", i think i'll be sticking to older subaru models.

I dont mind that they are going to make the same car with 2 different badges, the biggist problem that I have with that car is no AWD :-( If it had AWD I would totally be getting it, but that is a huge hangup for me

I don't have the article bookmarked, but rumors is that it will have a N/A RWD, Turbo RWD, and a Turbo AWD models. I rad that some time earlier this year and it could have changed. It could be that the FT-86 subaru counter part will be AWD and the toyota will be RWD. Either way this car makea me HAPPY wtch the video below and you'll know why

that looks like something interesting, having a small RWD car with boxer engine sounds sweet, would make a great communter out of it lol. regardless of the badge i would be interested in those, personally have nothign against toyota except overpricing and being boring. but if that comes to us as toyota and has a similar flat four to ej series i'd be down.

There's no reason they couldn't rear mount the H4 engine... VW beetles have been doing it for years.
Imagine, RWD, Rear engine coupe. Hotness!

Actually, Toyota have the technology and race proven ability to fab up a RWD platform with a front mount engine - their new Drift TC does it pretty well.

I'd be pretty keen to see a Toyota/Subaru hybrid car - if it has the fun-ness of the Subbie with the build quality of Toyota, awesome.

FT= fujiwara takumi!!!! :smt005

Appreciate the effort, but the nose looks awful...like bomex body kit awful. I wish it looked more boring tbh.

If they do make an AWD drive I would love it, especially if it was a turbo. Wouldn't buy it new but I would deffently like to get one down the line, maybe when my BE dies

hmmm... I like it. Would love to see at least a small turbo on it, or the 2.5 in the US version :smt023

As far as the looks go, you can pretty much expect it to get tamed down for the production version. Should be interesting.

You guys don't keep up with the news and rumors on this project much eh?

It's the future model of the AE86 Corolla. Hence the name FT-86. No idea what FT means. probably

ugh considering the "86" corolla hasn't been made in the past 20 years, and the sport compact that immediately came before this one was the celica, I would say you're both right.

The turbo model better have more than 146bhp more like 246. RWD is awesome though it will be a lot better than the TC. Id rather have a subie or a Mark IV TTSupra though.

Styling is to over the top looks like someone took the front half of an old Hyundai Tiburon with a horrible body kit and welded it to the rear half of a 350Z, and the doors are to tall like the Matrix.

I don't know why but this stuff interests me LOL, I found another Subaru concept today didn't read too much into it yet but I thought I would just throw it out there for you guys

We've been talking about this a lot on an automotive radio show that I co-host. My money is on this thing never making it to production. This car has been in the works between Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries for something around 5 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Toyota will eventually mass produce a car based around the FT-86, but I bet FHI will not be a part of it. The partnership between the two has always seemed iffy. Plus, in all honesty, this style of car does not warrant a flat 4.

We can all attest that the flat 4 has a very broad powerband and lots of lowend torque; that's why I love them so much. They're not that high of a reving engine, even the turbo ones. Sure, you can rev the snot out of them, but you don't really need too. The fun (I'm assuming from my little experience with Miatas) of small, light coupes and sports cars is reving the shirt out of them because that's were all your power is. The soul and purpose of the FT-86 isn't a traffic scalpel like the STI, but a weekend mountain runner: i.e. S2000, Miata, and the AE86 of yore.

I think Toyota should take the design, and use it as basis for their own sports car; considering they do not offer one in their current line up and haven't since they cut the Celica and MR-2 spyder. Put in a high reving 2L inline four, strip the interior, and call it fashion. There is no need to bring FHI into this. What do they have to gain in this partnership? The only thing I can think of is that they'd bolt AWD to it, and brand it the new SVX. But then the new SVX would be part Toyota, and I don't want that at all.

The early nurburgring mules were all bodied in some sort of impreza mix and match, so I wouldn't put it past subaru to make this into an impreza coupe...

I like it! I have no idea why they would use a Subaru motor in a Toyota, or the other way around, but I do still like it.

I'm not much for the wheels, but I do like the lines... If the price point is under 15K for the base model, that would be sweet....
