I just picked up a 97 Brighton Wagon with 73,659 miles on it, for $2,500. Manual everything, but has fogs! :) Anyway, I already snorkusectomied it and repainted alot of things (wheels, wipers, rack, engine pieces) that were either oxidized or rusted.
Just finished clay barring, polishing, and waxing it in preparation for the winter.
What mod should I do next? The end goal is to find a salvage STi and have a rocket. I'm thinking other than a radio this thing needs suspension work the most.
On to Pics,
Snorkus removed. Really happy with this mod. Didn't get any bogging, noticeable pep, and better sound!

Debadge in progress. Any suggestions to fill those holes? They're siliconed for the short term.

Good lord, that IS clean!!! It looks great, and Brightons are awesome and light(er). Swap over to an L or GT gauge cluster if you'd like a tach.
Mod wise, slap some 16" WRX, or maybe some 2.5rs 6spoke (my favorite) wheels on that thing, drop it with WRX or STi struts and springs, and it'd look fan-freaking-tastic. Seriously, I haven't seen a Ruby Legacy that clean since Peugoby's so you better start modding if you want to be anywhere near his.

Thanks man!
I couldn't live without a tach so that's the first thing I would do. Another cheap and easy upgrade is an Outback 18mm rear sway bar. Usually these run about ~$50 or less. The L's only came with 14mm bars so that will really tidy up the handling. The other thing I'd do is a short shift kit along with new (stiffer) shifter bushings. I am using the RalliTEK short shift kit along with a mix of their & some Cusco bushings. All together about ~$200. I found the shifter to be pretty sloppy and the throw to be way to long in my personal opinion. Next would be a nice set of 16" wheels and some grippy tires. Proceeding this I'd get some JDM kouki projector headlights.
Your wagon looks to be an excellent base for mods - Ruby Mica peal (color code 947) is absolutely the best color Subaru ever put out. Both my BD & my BC are the same color. Looks like a great purchase, it should last you many many more miles to come. Welcome to the forum!

Picked up some 05 WRX wheels with nearly new snow tires on em. $400 for the set. Damn good deal with the tires included. These rims will hold 06-07 WRX brakes under them which I want to swap over eventually. 225/50's will be going on a set of 2.5RS 6 spoke wheels in the spring. On to pics.

Those WRX wheels look nice on there. Just an FYI those are 02-04 WRX wheels, '05's are bronze and a bit different design. I also wanted to mention that you cannot clear '06/'07 WRX brakes on the rex wheels you just mounted. You can however clear them with the 2.5RS 5 spokes.

You're right. guy said they were 05's but I just checked and they did change. So far I really like the rims. So 2.5RS wheels clear, do both types(6 spoke and 5 spoke)? I guess I'll sell these rims in the spring and jump for either 2.5RS or legacy GT rims...I like the GT rims.

Le gasp! MMP eh? Are you here in Utah as well? Welcome to the boards btw. If you're here in Utah then you are the fourth modded second-gen legacy wagon that I know of. :D

UPDATE... Installed aftermarket stereo, rear speakers (had to pick up door cards and mounts from junkyard), 10 inch low profile subwoofer under drivers seat, and tachometer.
Drove around for a few hours playing in the snow. Those snow tires kick ass.

YES! the newer legacy rims always look good on the 2nd gens. You should keep both sets of rims and tires, a set for snow and a set for summer. I just started doing it this year and so far I love the handling of 17's in the summer and then the control in snow with the 16's.
But now that I actually READ I see you want bigger brakes, so OK!
Huffer

Don't bother with the bigger brakes until you have more power under the hood. The bigger brakes will simply destroy your power/weight ratio by adding more weight that you don't need. Run the lgt wheels for summer and the wrx rims for winter. You want narrower tires for winter anyway, and the bigger profile will help more with he rougher roads and iced potholes.
Looking good though!

Looks sharp. I wouldn't sell the WRX wheels, you'll end up regretting it.
A simplistic '02-'05 WRX caliper and rotor upgrade is more than enough for the power your car is putting out. Its a cheap and simplistic upgrade. Paired with stainless steel lines and Superblue brake fluid it is the best bang for your buck in terms of braking. They won't add too much rotating weight either.

new member -
Sorry to revive an old thread, but am looking at a set of these Legacy rims for my 2006 WRX, and I have been having a hellofa time confirming if they will clear the big callipers, but it seems some guys here are saying they do?
can I get a final confirmation on that?
thnx!

thnx for the fast reply!
- was it a 2006 WRX you tested those Legacy rims on? (I think the callipers got bigger that the 2005 WRX).
- when I looked at my stock WRX rims (7 spoke) today it is CRAZY how close they come to those front callipers!
But I really like the look of those 5 spoke Legacy rims!

Got 'em, test fitted 'em, and they are good to go!
I will mount my summer tires on them and switch over in the next few weeks.
thnx for the help.
They clear the front callipers about the same as the stock rims do - which is barely :smt025
