Well i have decided i am going to try to tackle the custom intake today(or tomorrow). Im doing it for one to be cheap and two i dont like the idea of a metal intake soaking up heat.

My biggest concern is what size pipe is normally used and what can i use for bungs for vacume lines?
I was thinking some sort of metal nipple jb welded or epoxied to a hole in the intake.
Any pics of setups would be great. Thanks.

Sorry if this topic has been beat to death i could not find too many of them.

you can get plastic hose barbs with threads on one end..i assume you will be using PVC probably 3 or 4 inch for the main tube, so get that, a couple plastic hose barbs from the plumbing section, some black epoxy, a couple hose clamps and some black spray paint....

wham bam thank you maam...

well got it most of the way hooked up. just need to make the barbs for the vacume lines. Got it started anyway, won't idle lol. But its not as loud as i thought it would be. Im using the stock airbox would getting a cone filter make it that much louder?
How can the filter be mounted to the maf?

conical filter should make it a little louder, as for mounting if you want to spend $32 plus shipping you can get the adapter kit and the conical filter. link below

i got the entire short ram kit from them. not a big name in subars parts but turned out great, you can see it mounted on my car on my page. http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12305
