Hey guys,

Just wanted to present myself, i just bought a 1997 Legacy Wagon GT manual with roughly 190000miles on it for 600$!!

I've owned a 2001 2.5RS Coupe (sold it 3 months ago) and now own a 2006 Legacy GT limited manual also!

So I'll be browsing this forum alot, since the wagon needs love and some replacement parts, but other than that glad to see another forum that will help me out!

I am currently a member of pretty much every subaru forum there is right now!

One last note, how come i cant access the Transmission & Differential section of the forum! I really need to find out what can cause the shifter to move left to right about 1 foot on neutral and in gear!! (most likely bushings) but would like to know more in details!

Thanks again!!
JP

Welcome along, not sure why you can't access it, PM Reason or DLC and they'll be able to help you.

You hit the nail on the head my friend (bushing wise). Welcome! Got any pictures of your 4th gen? We need more of them on this site.

1997 GT wagon and an '06 GT Ltd 5spd Sedan....Nice choice in cars

As far as your shifter in your '97, you need the shifter knuckle that connects down at the transmission:

Pics courtesy of legacy1907 over on Nasioc in a tread about this exact topic, complete with a DIY by Box This: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1564285 (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1564285)

While the rest of the typical bushings would surely help the overall feel, they'll do very little for the "nuetral feeling while in gear" .

Good luck with it.

+1 on an informative reply, Matt. I was going to do the same thing. :)

Welcome to SL-I, JP! I also have a '97 LGT Wagon. \o/ Nothing super special about it (yet,) but I'm going to be doing quite a bit to it this winter. I'll upload some pictures as soon as I get a chance.
