So how are the GR2's holding up? I'm wondering how well they do hold up with stiffer aftermarket springs. I just got some GR2's, haven't installed them cause I can't decide what to do about springs. Keep the stock one's (legacy L) with 150k on them or get some Eibach Pro Kit's, or get stock Legacy GT springs. I would like a better ride and a lower ride, but I don't want to blow the struts in a year either.

huh,
yeap...i got the gr2's w/eibach! they ride COMPLETLY DIFFERENT from stock! way better, makes your head shake alot! alot of bouncyness! pretty good for the money to! i don't know what the difference is between stock L springs and GT but get aftermarket springs! there's no use for getting gr2's w/ no springs! just like my buddies celica gts, they come stock w/ gr2's! no difference! good luck on your set-up though!

If you're going to get new struts, get new springs.
Don't do it twice.

gr-2's are stock struts are stock struts with 15% more dampening. If your aftermarket springs are meant to be suitable on a stock shock, then the gr-2's are an appropriate alternative.

It's my theory that legacy GT suspension is L springs with stiffer shocks. This hasn't been proven.

FWIW- KYB makes the stock struts for your car.

I got the GR-2s with Whiteline Control springs.

Next change up will go on with STi strut top mounts. This will allow less suspension travel to be transmitted through the soft rubber of the stock mounts. Meaning that the stiffer STi mount will make the strut/spring combo work more thoroughly.

Why didn't I do it with this change up? I've got reasons.

Don't ask.

The setup works nice. There is a noticeable handling difference...but not extreme. The car is also a touch lower. I like the resulting stance.

There is a smidge of bounciness over multiple road imperfections, but it settles out rather quickly.

I answered this over on Nabisco but what the hell.

I've had my GR2's and H&R's for about 2 months now. I love them. The ride is a lot nicer without being overly harsh. The dampening is much improved over the stock struts but can be a little rough with potholes and large bumps. I also have Group-N STi front strut mounts which adds to the stiffness. I'm very happy with the setup though.

I was wondering about the longevity of the GR2's with aftermarket springs, not the performance of them....but from what everyone says, the GR2's are underdamped for most of the springs out there....which is exactly why I wanted to know if they were lasting that long!

bottom line is the car will drive 100% different with the gr2's. Your old struts are shot at 150K. I just swapped in gr2's with 99 GT springs. my LSi has 150K and the front shocks were dead... It feels much stiffer, the bounce or old caddy feel is gone, body roll is gone...

I wasn't looking for performance just a slightly stiffer ride without a jarring ride. It's been a couple of weeks and i'm very satisfied. One thing I learned is the top spring mounts have to face out where it is stamped... doh...
