I am getting a terrible noise when my fan in front of the radiator comes on. How do I fix this? Is it a belt or do I need to replace the fan?

I have not seen a Subaru with a mechanical belt-driven fan. With the car off I'd try to spin the radiator fans - they should move freely.

What constitutes a "terrible noise"? clanging? banging? screeching?

when i did my front seals i removed my two fans, then put them back and after that one of them had a blade that came in contact with the houseing, i just sut the car off, and spun the fan by hand and figured out where it was contacting, then just grabbed the housing and twisted it a bit and retightned the bolts and it shut up..

if its a squeel then you might need to replace the fans as a bearing might be on its way...

Well it is hard to describe but it sound like a buzzing i guess. I have changed out my serpentine belt and AC belt just a few days ago but it was making the sound before I changed them out.

the fans on your subaru have nothing to do with the belts....

IN the morning I will have to take a look at it closer. I thought it might be a belt at least then it was something easy. No I have no idea what it might be

Since I work nights I just couldn't wait to check it out further, It would appear that it is the A/C Condenser Fan according to rockauto.com that I am having the issue with. There are two issues I noticed attributed to the noise i have been hearing. The fan is supported by four plastic arms and the top two of mine are broke. 2, the entire fan its self has lifted its self of the bottom support and is now just loose. I have tried to lock it into place but I have had no luck and I don't want to break it further. Now I know what I am dealing with so can anyone tell me if this is a easy install? From just looking at it it seems like a couple of screws and the whole thing comes out. Is there anything I dont see that I should know about?
