If you want a proper brake upgrade, you'd have to go bigger than 16, normally. ;)

For the price, you could buy a set, or two, and then sell them again later when the price goes back up (or the wheels are no longer available).

Enkei's own website has no listing for the model type - which means they have stopped making them.

There's no reason a 7.5" width wouldn't fit on a 95 sedan. You just wouldn't want to slam the car unless you roll the fenders.
You don't HAVE to use the entire 225 width either... ;)

Unless I can get indestructable wheels that are excessivly light, I'm not going over 16" :p Or at least, I'm going to fight it till the bitter end. :(

I dunno, a bc/bd doesn't stress the front brakes like a wrx does, seems like there's plenty of good options out there for us that don't cost 1k and require 17's.

The problem with using larger wheels is the reduction in sidewall, not in suspension travel. If you just do driving on paved roads and on decent paved roads, a larger tire would be fine.

Taking an escalade on 24" wheels with 25" tires offroading is just asking for trouble, which is why when I see an SUV with 'pimp wheels' I just roll my eyes.

So, basically, if you want to get 17"s, go for it. They will make the ride more harsh, though, and if you hit a pothole or something you can possibly break the wheel, which is why I don't want 17". :p

Edit: Slamming the car usually means using a stiffer shock/strut/spring, and reducing the travel, so, yes, it would reduce it. And you will have clearance issues if you lower it too much, hence rolling the fenders.

Its a shame I'm just not in a spot to buy these right now. They are perfect for auto-x. Reason, if you decide to sell down the road :D

As for tires, what are you going to use the wheels/tires for ?

- Auto-x
- Track day events
- High performance driving
- Just crusing around

There are lots of great tires which are great in one respect but not another. It all depends on what you want them to do for you.

Mostly spirited driving, MAYBE auto crossing someday. I just don't have the time and work schedule to have that much fun. I need something that can last a whole summer or two.

I really liked the Traction T/A's I bought... Those are a good tire with respectable tread wear. Check 'em out :wink:

i liked the set of nitto nt555's i had on my cavalier. they stuck like no tomorrow... the sidewall is a bit stiffer than other brands though so they ride a bit rougher...

as for the wheels, i wish i had 400+ to drop right now... :?

I'll look up those tires and see what I can find on them. I have to watch out for pot holes around here. The stiffer sidewall might be ideal.

Two summers should be easy to live with given any performance tire. I went a summer and a half in the Jetta driving (and competing) on R-compounds which are notoriously soft. Off the top of my head I'd recommend in no particular order.

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 or S-02's
Goodyear Eagle F1
Kumho ECSTA MX
Yokohama AVS Sport
PROXES T1-R
Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212
Falken AZENIS

Any one of these tires will be more than enough to make you very happy and will last two summers so long as you don't try to destroy them. The MX , Ventus and Azenis tires make great auto-x tires that you can drive on the street so they are great "dual purpose" tires if you're planning on hitting the track maybe once or twice in a season.

I'm honestly not a fan of the Nitto tires, I had a set on the Jetta and BOTH front tires were defective. The tread started to seperate from the body of the tire while there was still plenty of tread left. I called Nitto to let them know and they ignored me. Tells you a lot about the company. And its not my driving :) I've run 4 sets of tires on that car down to the wear bars including the Yok R032 R compounds which I raced on and none of them ever came apart on me like those stupid Nitto tires.

i had a great experience with my nitto's... my friend has also run 2 sets now on his grand am and grand prix and has had the same luck. they are soft so if you beat on them alot, they won't last... but i ran mine two summers with no problems and i bought them used (they came on the 18's i bought)

eagle f1's and the s-03's are supposed to be amazing, but they are pretty damn expensive.

I couldn't believe how expensive the F1's are here. Though I did spend $2000 on my 17" wheels and tires in NZ. All I knew was that I wanted them.
They are seriously good tires. I've never lost traction with them, no hydroplane, minimal tramlining over rough ground and I currently have over 40,000km logged on them.

The bottom line is with tires you get what you pay for. F1's are expensive but they work. Be aware that they are now on sale @ Tirerack.com

That said, the Kumho and Hankook brands aren't as well known amoung the general public and are priced attractively. They provide comparible grip to the F1's at a fraction of the price. I know somewhere I have a test track comparison of about a dozen tires which shows you don't have to spend a boatload to get great tires.

I would get Kumho's - good bang for buck. Wouldn't expect a set to last an entire autox season though.

gt wagon... car and driver did a tire test a month or two ago between a bunch of performance tires... that might be the article you are referring to.
