High idle on startup? help?

so in the winter the car used to startup and idle at 1500 rpm for a little bit and go down, and only on cold startup.

now for a couple months its been doing this while its been warm out so i'm worried about what might happen in the colder months. I can get it to go down by pumping the brakes and clutch a bit before i start to drive. once i drive it for 30 seconds then stop its completly gone.

i dont know what it is. just replaced plugs and wires and oil.

with all the old 2.5's on here SOMEONES gotta have had this happen to them.

its normal on a cold engine. mine goes to 2100 apon start up than goes down. i wait until my engine temo is a 100 before i drive my car.

it should do it, unless you just drove and and went into a store or something an then started it.

Try resetting your ECU. I find that it solves a lot of problems. The engine will idle high until the thermostat opens and the ECU enters closed loop. Until then, its just running rich as a safety measure until the rings have fully expanded and the engine is warm and happy.

Pull the negative cable off the battery and pump the brakes until they stop. Then I usually let it sit for a little while so all the power drains out of the system before I reconnect the negative cable.

It is normal, all of our cars does this.

ya its 100% norm on cold starts, specially during the winter. Mine will get to about 2k and it tends to wake the neighbors in the morning xD

High idle = more oil pump to where it's needed.

Funny that you notice the high idle and not the valve taps! :lol:

Blip the throttle and you'll find it'll drop below 1500 quicker. If you install an engine block heater this will reduce your warmup time. Cleaning the IACV will also help control the idle better.
