Belts to tight?

I just replaced my serpentine and A/C belts and I was wondering if i set the tensioner to tight will that rob me of power/gas mileage? Me thinks yes but I just want to make sure. I pretty much just eyeballed it when I put it back together. Was that wrong?

there should be at least 1/2" of play in the belt. Belts that are too tight will snap faster, I doubt that there is any power gains in a tighter/looser belt.

Consult the FSM and make sure your doing things right.

^^+1 there will not be any power diff if loose or tight. 1/2in play is what you want.
