View Full Version : What is this for and why is it not connected?

I was working on a washer fluid motor problem and found this. It was all gunked up and taped off. Any ideas? I checked everything around it. It might be an old connector.

I'm pretty sure mine has the same thing.. my guess would be its for the models with a rear wiper??

I'm not really sure WHAT its for.. however i think mine does have a wire hanging there too. I would assume its for the wagon models that have the rear wiper / sprayer.. and something to do with that. Thats my best guess till someone else chimes in.

YES! rear wiper it is! My fluid tank thing has another pump next to the one with the green connector. Then that plug goes into the 2nd pump. I found this out when I was replacing spark plugs. Weird that the connector came with every car even if it wasn't a wagon..

Confirmed. Wagons have a washer bottle that has two pumps attached...the rear washer spray is mounted slightly higher in the bottle so it becomes ineffective below a certain level.

Harness is universal (most times) so as to reduce manufacturing costs.

I can second the fact that the extra plug is for the rear washer pump.

Thats what I figured it was for.. also.. don't the JDM BD5's or whatever have a rear wiper... even the sedans? If not.. I know you can get the rear windshield / wiper from JDM importers sometimes..

I know this thread died out, but just FYI that plug is a great source for a switched power source if you need one in the engine bay and don't want to tap something else. Just get a flat pin connector and plug it right in. I used it for some aux. fogs I had a while ago.

It was discussed in one of the stickies I think, but just thought I'd reiterate.

^ So if you connect anything to that plug.. what controls turning it on and off... the windshield washer fluid button? or what? :?:

No, it's just a switch power source, meaning that it's only on when the ignition is switched on. Rather than a constant 12v. If you Ground whatever your add to the chassis, you don't need an actual switch.

Thats odd, I would think that it would only have power when you push the rear wiper spray button.

It's Subaru pull-style electronics at work. Pump always gets voltage, but the ground is not connected (to complete the circuit) until you hit the switch. Just verified it via the wiring diagrams in the FSM.
