how do i find out if my 96 outback had factory keyless entry or alarm?

Look under the hook to see if there's a horn mounted there, look under the dash for a Keyless entry module box - about 4"x3", black.

Also check this website for model specs: www.cars101.com (http://www.cars101.com) - click Outback.

The box is right under the column like Huffer said...

Looks like this... This is the top and bottom... I have the key fobs stuck to them.... haha
