Why does my fuel door always pop open?!?!?

The latch is probably bent and doesn't click right. If it's the door itself I may have a black spare for a sedan. Sedans are diff to wagons.

It doesn't look bent, I slap the shit out of it (The door...) and nothing. I jiggle the release handle to see if the cable is loose or maybe the tab that holds the door is maybe short but nothing. I've been watching it for months now trying to figure out why, like if I hit a bump maybe it pops open, nothing. Randomly when I look out the side view there it is, open :roll:

Well, your car has a ton of miles right? It could be that the plastic on the door has worn just enough to make it pop open on a slight bump. Also it could be the little pin that is part of the cable, that also maybe be worn from years of abuse...

I had the same problem on a Wagon we had at the shop, but it was 2 years ago and forgot how I fixed it...

You should be able to adjust the bracket on the door a little, see if that works...

That's eactly what I was thinking while pumping gas this morning. I figured shit how many times was this door popped open. I checked the plastic and it looked find. I'm going to loosen the bolt that holds the plastic clip to see if I can adjust it a hair closer. I like how you think new guy! :smt023

I used to work for a car dealer that would buy and re-build insurance totals... You get to learn to fix lots of other peoples problems... Every car was fixed right... And the boss LOVED Outbacks! Note: My GT was from the same place....
