My CEL is on.......

Hi, my CEl is on in the car and i cant seam to know wat it is, the power in the second turbo is gone but still kicks in a little bit and i cant redline the car,,,,,, there is a tickin noise from the engine bay,,,,, its back-firing and as i shut off the accelerator it puff's a lil bit of black smoke,,,,,, it all started when i went over a bump in the road, any idea's to help would be really appreciated, tks Ste

It would REALLY help us if you:
1. Could go get the code read and told us what it was.
2. Posted in the CORRECT technical forum (I have moved this to the Forced Induction section)
3. Told us what vehicle make, model and year you have, along with any modifications to the car
4. Updated your profile/user info to show WHERE you are from.

Based on your poor description, it sounds like your car is in limp mode (hence no redline) because you've lunched a bearing or piston ring inside the engine. I'm guessing you have a twin turbo EJ20 engine.

yes, sorry i have a 99 ej20 twin turbo, lots of people thought it was a cam shaft position sensor,,,, it has a redline up to third gear, just wanted your opinion, she still drives perfect in the single turbo, lags in second turbo. Tks a mill for all ur help....

you really need to get the ECU scanned. I have a cheap scanner from ebay and that's what I use. I've been hunting down a CEL (p0171) for the past 2 weeks, heavens knows how much harder it is if all I know is the dummy light is on in the gauge cluster...

Yeah think thats wat i'm gonnna do just needed some advice to see if any1 knew wat was wrong with it,,, its not a lunched piston ring.... she's puffin a bit of black smoke wen i shut off or on the accelerator...
