My 95 BK has one so I assume the 2nd generation started out with the 140.

I think it was only on the 95 and 96's. Def. only on the early ones

As for the 2nd gens are concern 95-96 were 140mph, 97-99 120mph

can you drop a 95-96 in a 98? I need the 140. :smt029 for obvious reasons

My old '92 Legacy L went up to 140, gearing was definitely taller than my '98. The previous owner, my friend said he took it there. I believe him. He said the car was rock solid, not a rattle.

I took a 2000 Legacy L up so fast that the speedometer was pointing down past the odometer.

I can do that with my WRX, but don't have tires to do it.

Speaking of the speedometer, I wonder why they put a 120 mph speedometer in cars that had governers set to 140 mph.

I'm thinking it'd be to differentiate and sell performance models, the 2.5 RS came out around the the time most speedos went to 120.

My 2.5GT had a 120 mph speedometer.

:dontknow: Okay, how's this one, it makes them look more responsible. This is a bigger deal in Europe, but some groups find excessive capabilities of cars to be irresponsible in terms of safety and environmentalism.

I have a 98 lgt with just an ej205 engine. With the 4.10 I can easily barry the speedo just saw a 140 speedo in the newer ones and was curious.

I would like this to be confirmed as well, Brainerd International Raceway has some corners guys take at 120. I'm sure in the straights I'd bury my 120 speedo.

I swapped a 97 GT' Cluster into a 95' Brighton. Plug and Play.. But both were still 120 MPH..

most gps units show speed...usually those are more accurate than the speedo on your car.

yea mines a 96 and it reads 140 mph.

Ahh, I think part of the reason for the 120 mph speedometer has to do with the fact that the majority of the Legacies and Outbacks produced are limited to 118 mph with the automatic transmission. Then Subaru got lazy and just put the same cluster in the Manual car, even though it's limited at a higher speed. They figured you'd never go faster than 120 anyway.

Both the 95 and 98 MT Legacies that I own definitely cut off around 112.

I'm hoping a chipped z4 ecu from a 96 Wrx doesn't govern that low. I can get the cluster from a junkyard here for less than $50, but a gps would be cool to have I guess, never needed one.

o.O I got a 1995 Legacy L with a 5 MT up over 120, as well as my 1998 LGT up to 120. That's strange...

the joys of a re-flashable ecu, my speed limitor is set at 176! hahaha, she's gone straight up and down a few times, but I can't now with my h rated studded winter tires. I need to wait til summer. I still haven't hit rev limit in 5th, but she pulled great up to 5500 in fifth.

*why does these feel like it's become a street racer thread?* wait i have a why thread now

Will a 120 cluster work in a car with a 140 cluster?

And by work I mean fully work...all of the lights

GTDrifter

i colored the numbers red unfortunately
and 163424 miles

also if you go from the 120 to the 140 you have to switch the connectors in which case, your speedometer will be off
i know from experience

Thread Bump

Anyone know if I can go the other way with the cluster (140 to a 120)?

My reason for wanting this is for the door open warning part. The 140 one shows just that a door is open warning...not which one. The 120 ones show which door and i thing that is awesome.
