Do the Snorkus have a hole on the bottom?
I'm moving from a SR intake to a hybrid intake that I saw in NASIOC(pic below)
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/10/hybrid20intake-1.jpg
Let me know pps
(I'll get the link to the NASIOC thread once NASIOC is back up)

mine did not have a hole at the bottom.

mine did, and as far as i know most do, it was a drain hole meant to drain collected water out of the snorkus so it did not get in the intake.
::edit::
how big of a hole are you talking about?

k ima have to wait for more feed back now since we are 1 to 1 on the hole ( that' doesn't sound good :smt005 )

between a quarter to a half an inch

ya then that sounds like the drain hole for the water if/when it collects into the snorkus

A hole in the airbox or the silencer/snorkus? I never seen a hole in the snorkus before....

You might want to get a fender liner then. You know a good chunk of your wiring goes right through the fenders.

i had bogging down below 2k and a very odd surge of power around 2.5k, i really think i did much better in the last autox i went to due to the smoother powerband

What were you running prior to the hybrid setup.. full CAI or short ram intake? I run a short ram.. and I don't have any bogging issues that I notice..
what does the bogging feel like.. is it very subtle.. or very obvious?
The water part of this.. is a good idea. If you live in an area with lots of rain.. prolly good.

I fixed my low end bogging with an MSD coil and hotter wires. I imagine both the hybrid intake and the coil/wires would make it down right snappy at the low end lol
Maybe I should sort out some pieces for a hybrid intake. I still have my torque box, maybe I could do some custom plumbing... :smt023

me too! It went from feeling like a dog to feeling like a rocket ship all in a matter of 4 seconds :smt005
As soon as I installed my MSD coil that completely changed and smoothed out. I could never crawl in first gear without lugging before, now I can crawl at 600 rpms without flirting with a stall. I always felt like a douche in parking lots because I needed to blip the throttle before dropping the clutch to prevent a huge bog. With my loud exhaust I always felt like people were thinking I was trying to show off or bring attn to myself. Little did they know I was just trying to pull away slowly without beating on my clutch or shaking the bearings out of my engine

i want an msd coil but with bearings sounding troubled on the wife's car and she needs a new fuel filler tube and i need to install the new master-cylinder for her brakes busy busy
i had the snorkle removed and was using the stock airbox and the pipe form a 95 legacy for the "hybrid type" intake in reality it was a CAI since it drew air from the fender-well, I modified the snorkle so it draws from the fender still and i have the fender plug in so it cant get engine bay air. with the snorkle installed i went from a cai to the hybrid and i smoothed the power band out

I've had both SRI and CAI. I can't run the CAI because I have no fender lining and with the amount of rain were are getting I can't afford to lose this engine.
You want to feel the bog?
Drive to a road that is empty or an empty parking lot - so you wont have anyone behind you
Get your car rolling and anywhere under 2K RPM floor it - WIDE OPEN THROTTLE
You'll feel it, you will know when it happens

There any details on making the hybrid setup? What exactly is it.. just an intake tube connected to the stock air box / snorkel setup? I'll see if i have the bog.. but I'm pretty sure i don't.. i do WOT all the time from stop lights.. haha. Then again.. i'm also not driving an auto or anything.

Auto or Manual doesn't matter if you WOT under 2K with a SRI or CAI you will feel the bog. I've had both and i've felt it with both.
The Hybrid is a completely stock intake setup with the piping from the MAF to throttle body replace with the SRI pipe. that's all
I'm set it up later today and post some feeback

Yeah definitely do.. I never pulled my snorkus out completely.. so if this does turn out to work good.. i would only need the top half of the stock airbox I'm assuming? I'm gonna do the WOT test today after work and see how much boggage I get.

Check the first link. The hybrid intake is simply smoothing out the connector pipe between the factory airbox and the intake manifold.
It's nothing fancy.

Indeed.. so the only reason why people run these.. is because they supposedly make the power band more smooth? And also for the big one.. RAIN puddles! right? We'll.. seems like an interesting concept.. i just dont see why using the stock air box would level out the power band more.. as opposed to a CAI filter or something? Isn't it just going to be restricting the airflow more.. hence.. why even have an intake?

wow.. go figure huh? /sarcasm
obviously its not new.. its a friggin stock airbox with a piece of CAI tubing. but the real question is.. WHY?

Its as Huffer stated it just smooths out the power band. You loose 2% power compared to the SRI, but id sacrafice 2% power for smoother power
Check out the link, it has a ton more info

Interesting.. i will definitely check it out. I'm mostly interested in WHY it smooths the power band out.. I'm assuming its because its getting less air and such obviously.. but I wonder if there are some other ways to smooth out the power band with a short ram or CAI. My short ram does not seem to have the bog problems.. but I'm most definitely going to try and get it to bog this afternoon just to see what it feels like.

This is going to surprise but its the snorkus that smooths it out not the pipe.
Don't ask if ur not getting bogged is because u have a SRI and the snorkus cuz I don't know. Someone asked if they can do that on that thread but I can't member the response

Refer to my post above about me installing an MSD coil and hotter wires and how it smoothed out the band and reduced bogging... lol

I have the MSD and OEM wires. If you read the thread wht makes our cars bog is the MAF

The issue is that without the snorkus and its precise shape to cancel out certain resonances, a large resonance can occur at low RPM. You have to understand the way a MAF works, it's a hot wire, and it measures the resistance of that wire to determine how much and how dense the air that's flowing past it is. When a large resonance occurs in the intake track air move both back and forth in the intake, rapidly cooling the MAF hot wire. This causes the ECU to think the engine just took in a ton of air when it didn't, so it dumps a ton of fuel in to compensate. This results in bogging, and in extreme cases black smoke out the exhaust, and sometimes stalling. This excess of fuel can also damage catalytic converters.
Due to the low RPM nature of this occurrence, it often happens when starting from a stop, which can be extremely dangerous when trying to pull into traffic.

for the record
Swapped intake pieces with heresmymind and now I have a hybrid intake. Resulting in my low back and no low end bogging. Im not saying my car launches under 2k RPM, but at least it doesn't seem like its going to stall.
Another proven result from Williaty's research and theory

I just read through this forum and I'm wondering if any other Leggys have this problem, I have a '02 and I think my car bogs issues under 2K, however I have no clue what bogging is  BTW the car is totally stock

Hi, I am running an Injen CAI. I experience a mild bog in the low range I am guessing as a result of the snorkusectomy as discussed in this thread. As much as it is a pain in parking lots when you are on and off the throttle, I appreciate the gains the CAI provides above 4k. I was wondering, shy of going for a hybrid intake setup, are there any other remedies to this issue? I have read that the group A throttle body spacer restores much of the torque at low RPM that is lost when using SRI/CAIs. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with the TBS?
