Well, as some of you know, I picked up a JDM B4 "Black Faced Meter" aka gauge cluster.
As almost all of you know, locating Legacy specific information is hard, and JDM legacy information is even worse.
Luckily another member on NASIOC located some good information on the net regarding this unit in Japanese. After translating, comparing, testing, and straight out guessing, I've finally got it installed and fully functioning. Hurrah! :disco:
So, if any of you BE/BH guys run across this unit in your travels, pick it up, I've done the hard work and figured out how to get it to work!
The PDF describing what is required and a direct JDM->USDM pinout translated to english(along with many of my "guesses" to make stuff work) can be downloaded here: BE_BFM_Cluster_Diagram.pdf (http://home.comcast.net/~virtualize/BE_BFM_Cluster_Diagram.pdf) . I'd suggest downloading it if you're a BE/BH guy and keeping it around in case I disappear or something. It'll be well worth it if you need it.
And now for photo time(I also changed all the center console lights that I could to "amber" to better match the cluster) Sorry for the finger prints all over the thing..I'll clean it up one day:

Thanks. I know I know...had just spent 5 hours sorting through about 30+16+18 wires trying to hunt down several issues that I had. Finally found them and it was about to get dark, so wanted to take a pic during the day for you guys before the sun went down!

What did u do to get your AC panel red? I know the Maxima guy soder LED's in place of the bulbs. I want that to be my last resort.

That is awesome and very clean looking. I know I wanted to do something with my gauges and all but I haven't found anything. Where did you get that cluster at? How much did it cost you? Anyway the kph can be converted to mph?

Changing the HVAC lighting is not hard at all...remove the unit, take out 3 bulbs, tear off green bulb condom, paint with red model paint, reassemble.
The cluster was purchased in a once-in-a-lifetime situation, but similarly was not cheap. There are adapters to convern kph to mph, about $100 bucks...but after a week of driving with kph, its not that difficult to know common speeds in kph and their like mph.

Don't you drive a stick? I remember seeing a pic of your car w/ the cardboard pioneer TV. If you do, does the auto gearshift indicator just stay on park or can you mess around with it (or disable it?)?
But I do like these guages. Kinda reminds me of our civic's guages.
I just ask these questions out of morbid curiosity...

Yeah, this pictures with the PIONEER cardboard interrior were from ebay, of a previous gen legacy ;) I didn't have any good pictures of my interrior. But yeah, I don't have a 5MT...it was too difficult to find a Legacy in AZ, let alone a 5MT, and I was under pressure to get a car so I got the first Legacy I found.
Now, this isn't to say I can't or won't drive stick, its just the way things worked out.
But theorhetically you could not wire in the pins that show the position of the shift lever and nothing would light up there...its not really a big deal, 7 pins or so.

I feel for ya man....auto is the devil, manual all the way. You could always do a conversion but that would be expensive...

They never made one without showing the auto gear selection?
also what is the -/+ on the cluster? Man I'd rather have this color in a BD Legacy.. Green sucks..

Holy thread revival...
Fibuz no longer owns a Legacy, I wouldn't expect him to answer any of your questions unless he has email notification turned on. I haven't seen him around any of the Subie forums lately either. :-?

The Blitzen B4 had tiptronic shifters, might be for that.

Its probably used to set the clock. My BE has a similar 'switch' that is used solely for setting the clock.

IIRC, there are numbers on the green plugs, which match up with my pdf.
Also, there are several different revisions of the BFM for different year legacy's. I seem to recall there are at least 3 different ones floating around.

Redoing all of the wiring.
Fibuz, your PDF file, A is the big plus for both JDM and USDM? Is the pinout the same ( Aka C8 is at the same place for both? Or USDM are not at the same place?)

Can you keep the cars' mileage record or do you have to change to what the 'new' speedo has?
