Im 15 and will be buying a legacy within the next few monthes. I want a 95-96 sedan 4wd /w 5spd and was wondering how quick they are stock. I found some where that an auto will do 0-60 in 9.3s but would a 5 spd be alot quicker?

9.3 in stock trim? nah, I think the manual does more like 10.3 (with the 2.2L) with the auto being slightly slower off the line. They're not very quick, but you'll like the torque, and you'll have fun with one :)

not for sraight line, subarus are for curves and any weather.

pass a 2wd explorer in a ditch in the snow and ride a riced out civic's back side on the off ramp, you'll learn to love a subie.

you could find a first gen EJ22T and be in turbo HEAVEN though.

Sounds like me a couple years ago, yea the car is not a beast in any means, but put a couple little suspension/new tires and rims, and you will love how it handles.

Legacy sedan 5spds are hard to find in good condition, look for wagons too. Who wouldn't love seeing a wagon take on little civics. But with you're question, they aren't that fast off the line but once you get all of the weight moving they're pretty quick.

I know subarus arent speed demons just curious. I love subarus b/c my brother had one , A 90' auto wagon FWD and it was a blast because the midrange tourque and that unique subaru boxer growl. Thats the main reason im getting one. We used to pull up to civis rev the motor and they would be looking around like that cant be that wagon. I just hope after Intake Header, Cat pipe, ecu it might be down in the 8's

You kidding me? My subie did 0-60 in like 5.6 seconds. It did take a while to get it out from the bottom of the canyon though. And I never was able to get it that fast again :lol:

I assume you mean 8second 0-60? When we toss out times, we're usually referring to the quarter...and 8 second quarter...heh...

Anyways, yes, it is fun to mess around with civics and the like in a wagon and outhandle them, or maybe tow them out of the snowy ditch :D

No, exhaust, intake, and ECU won't drop 2 seconds off your 0-60, but it'll sound nicer, be a little quicker, and a little more efficient.

If you want to get serious N/A power...its very involved.

That being said, 5MT FWD subies could be fairly quick, without all the drivetrain loss. I think you'd enjoy AWD (esp in Michigan) more though :)

Stock for stock, a civic handles much better than a subaru, but a swaybar and the sube is way more fun.

now that i got my sway, my fatassed subie runs rings around her car. literally!



(disclaimer/admission of guilt: as for a daily driver, i'd absolutely LOOOOVE to have her car. matter of fact, when i have a toy subaru, a weekender, i intend on getting a civic. her car as 110,000mi on it and it drives like new!)

My statement is based on having spent a fair amount of time in a 2000 ex coupe. The civic is harder to drive quickly, the low speed understeer is obnoxious and the brakes are somewhat marginal, but once you learn the car its much faster in the turns. Much faster.

yeah, the coupe didn't get rid of the good rear suspension like the sedan did.

According to msn auto it does do 60 in 9s ,but i dont know were they get their info. ,But braking from 60 in 118 doesnt sound accurate b/c that is really good.

Just expect some of the usual niggles you get with (gasp) a 10 year old car.
Budget for some major expenses like clutch or transmission.

If you can find one driven by a little old lady or retired couple, make them an offer. I used to leave notes on parked cars.

braking figure is accurate, possibly slightly optimistic, but only slightly so.

2000 was the last year of the good 'ol civic. EJ chassis, iirc.

Thnx for the used car tips. My dad a used car guru. Hes taught me all the trick like seats, chaeck the pedals, Look over the owner as well. Check under make sure nothing is bright and shiney under the car. Check the airbag cover/steering wheel make sure it faded evenly with the int. ect.

0-60 is about 10 seconds for a stock 2.5 legacy auto. so 9.3 sounds about right for a 5 speed.
