Just did some stuff to the car last night and took some pics on the way home from work today.

It's got BC Coilovers which actually ride a lot better than I was expecting. And got the car low enough.

18x9+35 G-forces which fit a lot easier than expected. Just rolled the fenders and not even all the way. Still need to do a couple more spots, but only rubs in the rear on big bumps and rubs in the front when making tight turns.

And I put sweet stuff inside. Like a steering wheel and broadway mirror and shift knob and head unit.

Still needs a couple things, like tail lights, tint, a wing, etc. And a couple small things fixed.

Loose the pin striping, detail the paint (maybe its just the lighting) and get your windows tinted and you'll have yourself a winner. I know those are Rota's but the original Advan RS are some of my favorite wheels. Good choice.

GT headlights and a JDM grill would be a nice touch too.

Those are all part of the plans. Tint and a wing next. And hopefully jap tail lights if I can find them in good shape for a decent price. I kind of want to do paint in the spring. There's a couple rust spots, one on the roof next to the antenna and one on the rear hatch, that I want to get fixed. And the paint chipped a little when rolling the fenders. And I want to make the molding and door handles match the paint.

I have a friend who imports stuff from japan looking for some other random stuff for me. So hopefully he'll come up with something. I would love a liip, sides, rear something, just something subtle to make it look a little cooler.

Love the wheels :smt023

Thanks. I'm real happy with the choice.

So recently got a ton of stuff for this thing.

Jap tail lights
Jap hid headlights - not sure if I'm going to use them or not
OE wing - it's a different color, but it was literally $5, so I couldn't pass it up
Integra lip - going to try and fit this
C-mod grill
Some kind of Jap seats - not sure what they're from, I think I've seen them on here. They're like grey in the center, black vinyl or leather on the bolsters, so whatever that means. I have front and rear, but the rears are from a sedan, so I don't know if I'll be able to make them work. I might look into it a little, but I have a feeling it might be more work than it's worth. But kind of want everything to match.

Now just to find time to install all of this stuff and the new rad and change the oil and put a new knock sensor in and maybe fresh pads and rotors. So I've got a lot of work ahead of me. Kind of don't want to do it, but the car should look pretty sweet with all of this. Oh and I might get it tinted this weekend, just have to decide if there's time.

I feel like there's something else I got, but I can't remember at this point. Maybe when I start working on it, I'll find something cool I forgot about.

So that's the plan for now. I'll try and get some pics of all the new stuff, but it's kind of spread out all over the house/garage right now. So hopefully some more updates this weekend if it's not too cold.

If so, B4 seats...

Yeah, that might be them.

Are they cool? I just grabbed them because my friend had them sitting around his shop and one of the springs on the base of my driver's seat is squeaking.

Thanks.

I love the steering wheel. Well actually I like this one, but have the same one coming but with a 80mm dish and I'm going to love that one. Everyone always complements the wheel. And it's nice and smooth and has a horse on the horn button. And it matches the shift knob. I need to get some better interior pictures or any at all.

Yeah, that might be them.

Are they cool? I just grabbed them because my friend had them sitting around his shop and one of the springs on the base of my driver's seat is squeaking.

From what I read they're pretty nice seats, but they are a bit heavy since one is powered. I would check the rear seat if its a sedan, theyre just basically foam and cloth, no buit-in back rest or hinge like the wagon rear seat...

wiisass
01-19-2010, 12:27 PM
Yeah, they felt a little heavy, but I never had the stock ones out to compare to. But I'm not worried about the weight.

The rear seat is from a sedan, I need to look at it this weekend and see what I can do about putting it in. I'm not entirely opposed to just rocking the front b4 seats and leaving the rears out or waiting around until I can find wagon rears. But it would be nice if I could figure out something. I saw a dude on here had wagon seats in the back of his sedan. They fit, kind of, but looked like crap. I'm not into that and I don't want to lose the folding down.

If it looks like too much work, I'll just get rid of them. Anyone want rear B4 seats?

So had to fix a coolant leak this past weekend. It was 20* outside. But it couldn't wait. Definitely not fun. Put in a new thermostat, gasket and thermostat housing.

Also threw in the front B4 seats. I like them. They cleaned up nicely after just wiping off all the dust from sitting in my friend's warehouse. It kind of sucks that the passenger seat is power. I didn't wire it in, but left leads on the fore/aft motor so it could easily be hooked up to a power source for adjustment.

I did something else too, oh yeah, got one of those c-mod grills and put that on the weekend before. Went on without any real problems. Looks better than the stock one. Now I just have to get it painted. But that will come when I get some other stuff painted and it's nicer out.

Still waiting on some other stuff and the weather to get nicer before I put on the wing and tail lights and decide what I'm going to do with the headlights.

Dodik, here's a quick pic after wiping the dust off the seats. They cleaned up pretty nicely. I'm into a trade if you are. I can get better pics once I find my better camera.

nice dude the wagon is coming together nicely. it sucks that the seats are power on the right side. but the good thing about the jdm seats are the U.S. drivers side is always in perfect condition.

wiisass
02-07-2010, 11:05 PM
Thanks Hallowpoint. I can't wait until it stops snowing and being crappy outside so I can put on the rest of the stuff.

The right side power seat does suck, I should have wired it in, but not that interested in it. But, in the spot it sits now, it's comfortable for the front and not squished for the rear, so it probably wouldn't get moved much anyway.

And the seats are in pretty good shape. I noticed a couple stains that I'm going to try and get out of the vinyl when it gets warmer, but I'm still really happy with them especially for the "get them out of the warehouse" price I didn't pay for them.

wiisass
02-07-2010, 11:09 PM
Oh yeah and it snowed pretty decent this weekend. And I had no trouble getting around on slightly plowed roads. I guess we got 8-12" and most of the roads were plowed, but still had 1-2" of packed slush all over the roads.

And winter set up is the same as in the pics in the first post. Still slammed, still on 18s, still looking awesome.

I just want some diffs for it, at least a real diff for the rear. Would make it a lot more fun in the snow.

dodik
02-10-2010, 10:14 AM
cool dude i gotta double check that i still have the hooks for the back because i did modify the car to fit the seats, if im still able to reattach the back then yeah ill swap them with you, i also have a retractable cover/dog guard that attaches to the back of the seats, ill have to dig around to find it though. so maybe some time in the spring when its warmer

I guess I need to update this.

Got the JDM tail lights on. Looks pretty awesome.

Also going to pick up some small spacers for the spring/summer to get the wheels to fit better.

I'll make some people take pics of the car this weekend. I mean I've got like 12 media people coming to my Club Loose event at E-town this weekend, so might as well make use of them.

Don't really have anything else planned. I'm trying to decide if I should run the JDM HID headlights or just stick with what I have. Haven't looked at the wiring, but I don't imagine it to be too bad.

Still need to get the wing mounted. I might just pay someone to do it and paint it. I'm just not really interested in doing it myself. Maybe get them to paint the grill at the same time.

Thanks guys. I'm still really happy with how the car looks, but I still have a couple things I want to do.

I'm going to be meeting up with Dodik this weekend to trade back seats since I have sedan B4 backseats and he's got the wagon ones, so that should help complete the interior.

Then I need to stop being lazy and get my wing painted and mounted. I still wish I could find a cooler one than the stock one. I mean it looks good, but I want something a little bigger/longer, but I also don't want to spend $500 on just a wing when I barely spent anything to get a stock one.

Trying to do a one day rebuild and get the new car back to the glory days of the old one tomorrow. As long as the front strut isn't bent, I think it's doable. Just won't have the windows tinted until later.

Hopefully I'll take pictures during all of this of both cars.

Did a lot this weekend, but it's not done yet.

Over the past 2 days, put the coilovers on, swapped the interior over so it's black and not that brown swirl whatever also did the center console and put my head unit in, put on the jdm tail lights, fixed the o2 sensor and got rid of the check engine list, swapped in the B4 front and rear seats and cleaned up a bunch of other stuff. Also, made the B4 drivers seat power and wired up the B4 passenger seat so now both are power which is pretty sweet.

Still need to roll the fenders and put the sweet wheels back on and get the car aligned. That should happen this week, I can't be rolling on stock wheels for long. Didn't get a chance to swap the grill and want to mount the wing and lip if I get a chance but don't know if that's going to happen this week.

I took like 2 pictures after I got started and then forgot about it since I was dirty. I'll take more of the car the way it sits and post them up tomorrow.

And that's all I was able to take on Saturday. Started getting too dirty to pull out the phone for more pictures. Plus lighting was horrible in the shop on Saturday since only one bulb was working.

How the car is sitting now. Wheels are in the back just need to get it over to another shop and roll the fenders and align the car.

Power B4 driver's seat. I'm pretty happy that it works.

http://www.wagonforce.com/legacy/IMG00290-20100906-1604.jpg
The old car and everything taken out. All fo the stuff I took out made it's way over to the new car. I ended up swapping most of the interior over. Lots of extra work, but it also gave me a chance to do some stuff I wanted to. Now you should see how much the rear B4 seats recline.

And that's pretty much it. Swapped tons of stuff over. Just need to get the wheels on. I also still have a wing and lip for it that I didn't get a chance to mount. And I have the JDM HIDs that I want to get on soon. And I need to do something about the fog lights. One has the wrong back piece on it so it won't close and seal and they're both really foggy. So I need to figure out what I'm going to do about that.

I'm trying to get at least the wheels/alignment done this week. But I also need to the old car back on the ground and running. A friend has a control arm for it and then it just needs a battery and it will drive. Just need to decide what to do. Either fix it and sell it/use it for something or part it all out. Not sure what makes the most sense at this point. It would be nice to get back some of the money spent on the new chassis, but I do want a rally car.

that looks like massive amount of work but at least this time around you already more familiar with the car, plus the satisfaction of riding the car after all is done will be phenomenal. keep up the good work.

ps i found that last bracket thing for the cargo cover let me know if you want it.

wiisass
09-08-2010, 03:35 PM
ITR is my friends. It's alright I guess. He doesn't really drive it at all anymore. It just sits in that shop getting dusty.

I don't really want to deal with swapping bumpers or anything for the fog lights, just want to either clean these up or find new ones that will fit and look alright. Not a huge deal either way.

It was a lot of work. I mean it wasn't hard, just time consuming. And with so much to do, I started jumping around a lot. But everything seemed to get buttoned up so I guess I remembered to tighten everything.

I actually grabbed the cargo cover stuff to look at mounting it but left it at home and didn't get around to it. I'm going to check it out and decide what I want to do and I'll let you know about that bracket. Oh and I took out the hooks that the stock wagon seats attach and lock into at the top and now the rear seats recline like crazy.

Also, anyone know anything about swapping gauge clusters from an 00 to an 01. I just miss the dumb stuff like a trip odometer and the outside temp display. For the outside temp display I'm probably going to have to swap over at least the sensor and probably some wiring, but everything else looks like it will work without issue. Just not exactly excited about digging into the dash area again especially after doing it like 3 times this weekend.

Got the wheels on the car aligned. I need to make/find/buy some adjustable arms for the back. Alignment is a little off and I kind of want to dial it in. I mean nothing too bad especially just for a street car, but I would like to make it right.

Also still have some more fender work to do. It's still rubbing a little, but I knew it was going to do that. I'll mess with it this weekend. Just have to hammer a couple more spots and pull the front fenders a little more.

I'll try and take pics this weekend.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Are there any arms on the market that use rod ends instead of poly bushings? Not really a fan of poly bushings.

Not that I know of.
Could always get the arms then fit bearings in thou, that'd be pretty hardcore.

Get my PM on NASIOC about your wheels?

Yeah that seems like a lot of money to spend. I'm sure someone will make something that works. It would be way cheaper and less work to just make the arms rather than put bearings in the whiteline arms.

I don't remember. I thought I got back to all my PM's on there. What did you want to know about the wheels?

I was going to make some, but Whiteline fucked me around for a few months, sent wrong parts etc, so did me a good deal on the arms ($200AUD) for the set.

I can't remember what it was...
Maybe something like would 235's fit just as easy?
I'm leaning towards 18 x 9.5 + 38 Grids with a 235 - this is on an Outback thou, so flares = abit more room to play with.

BC Coilovers actually are a lot better made then Megans from many reviews i have read. Think am going with BCs myself, You happen to know what BC Model you have? I seen 01-03 legacy on ebay so assuming those are them.

nope outbacks have flared body in comparison to legacy's im running 245's with slight drop and not rubbing without rolling/pulling fenders

BobbyJimmy, if the outbacks do have a little more flare, the grids should fit without too much work. If they don't have much flare, you can still make them fit, it's just more work. You just have to roll the fenders and hammer the right parts and you'll be fine.

Matty2Hotty, I don't know what model, but I thought BC only had one model for the BE/BH. But these are a pretty basic setup.

Fail wagon, the grill is something from ebay. I forget who I got it from or if it's a knock off of something or what. But I like it. It did get cracked a little in the crash, but I put it back on before fixing it. I'll probably get the cracked area smoothed out when/if I get it painted.

Anyway, other updates with the car. Sunroof is leaking. It's annoying. I don't know if it's just the drain tubes are clogged or if there's something clogging the drain in the tracks and it's forcing the water out the wrong way or if the seal is a mess on the rear sunroof and it's not sealing and water is getting in. I pulled the headliner last weekend and then it rained most of the week, but it's supposed to be clear this weekend, so I'll mess with it some more. I saw where it's leaking from after it gets into the track/drain channel, it's the end of each track where the cap bolts on with one screw. There is some sealer stuff on there, in the front it looks like it was put on from the factory, in the back it looks like it was just smeared all over like some shop was trying to fix it.

So hopefully I'll be able to get it fixed up this weekend, and then I'll probably do some arts and crafts with the headliner and get it back in sooner than later hopefully.

There's still a couple other dumb things to deal with. Front fenders need a little more pulling/flaring. Rear just needs on spot hammered because it will still hit on the right side on big bumps. The rear suspension is squeaking like crazy. I think it's just the sway bar, so the bushings will need to get greased. If it's another pushing, they'll get greased too. I just want to make it go away. It's super annoying without the rear interior in. And I need to change the oil and do other dumb stuff.

Also got the crashed legacy back to the house last weekend. Need to start parting it out or decide what I'm going to do with it.

Pics from last weekend.

So anyone deal with leaking sunroofs? Mine is leaking from the rear corners and seems like it's filling up the channel but not draining. I check all the drain hoses and they're not blocked. It might be blocked at the outlet from the track. Or the 2 channels in each track just aren't connected or clogged. I've been trying to avoid dropping the whole assembly, but looks like it might be my only options.

But I can also see a gap between the rear of the sunroof and the roof. There is some sealer tape on there already but it looks like it's not enough. Any suggestions on something to use? I'm going to try adjusting things around a little and see if I can close the gap, but there's play in the assembly so I might need a soft seal on the roof where the glass touches. I was thinking of using more of that tape, but I can't find out where to get it or what it is. I found a couple options, but just want something that will do the job right and I'm not exactly sure what it is.

And in other complaints, the rear of my car is squeaking like crazy. When I lowered the car, I loosened most of the mounting bolts for the suspension arms and tightened them up after I got the suspension on. One or two bolts were seized though, so it might be coming from them. But the diff bushings look a little loose and the subframe bushings don't look like they're in that good of shape. So where can I get this stuff? I found a couple things on whiteline's site which I might get depending on what price I can get them for. But for the other arms, what's my best bet? Superpro? They might have had a couple that whiteline didn't have. OE rubber bushings? What about subframe bushings? I can't find them anywhere.

Is it worth doing all the bushings? I don't need poly bushings but if that's what's available and cheaper, then I'm fine with doing that. But if it's easier/cheaper to do OE rubber, then I'm also good with that. But I do want the adjustability from the whiteline arms (despite the recent failure on bobbyjimmy's car). So unless I can find them somewhere else or get the motivation to make them, which is unlikely, I'll just be getting the whiteline arms.

So let me know if you guys have any input. I want to get this stuff knocked out before winter comes around and then I can collect some more parts and get some fun stuff for the car for the spring. I still have some sweet parts that I never got around to installing and just haven't had the time since I've been messing with this stuff.

After taking off my original Whiteline "Prototype" arms, and replacing them with the new replacement set - the new ones are abit different.
The welds look better, the washers needed have a bigger O.D to help the bushes, better quality "turnbuckle's" etc.
So after all the effing around, I still recommend the Whiteline Arm set (KTA124).

No idea with the sunroof, never had one, nor never wanted one. I think you'll have to bite the bullet and pull the whole lot out and have a fiddle.
Got a Workshop Manual? That might have a few tips and tricks.

Diff bushing in the cradle/crossmember? Whiteline makes full replacement ones of these, aswell as the inserts from (can't remember what model exactly, but new Impreza rings a bell) work too.
If you end up getting the Whiteline arms, theres 6 bushes taken care of, but the Centre, Upper lateral link (the one the bump stop touches) still needs bushes, Whiteline list these for the BL/BP (same arms thou) in there "Plus" range but don't think they are available yet.

Subframe/crossmember bushing is a "drop the whole thing out" type of deal, so a fair bit of work, I'd make sure they where actually stuffed, and don't remember reading these going bad on any cars.
I wanted to do the bushes, then realised how invloved it was, so I got these;
http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?ur ... ?u=km1tune (http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?url=http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d107358330?u=km1tune)
They are solid alloy inserts, undo the bolt's (1 at a time), put these into the bushes, put the washer in them, then do the bolt back up - basically solid mounts without the effort.
Import Monster is like a middle man and has warehouse in Japan and Australia, you can buy thru him, but unless you pick EMS (Air Mail) shipping is SSSLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWW, like 2 - 3 months.
I've bought ALOT of stuff from him, everything has shown up, everything is packed really well and they always reply to emails - no matter how stupid the question is.

Thanks for the input. I'm starting to think the whiteline arms might be the best bet at this point. I would rather make something but I don't have any time to do fun stuff like that.

Yeah, with the leak, I'm regretting the sunroof, but I like it a lot when it's not leaking. So once I get it fixed I'll be pro-sunroof again.

I didn't see the diff bushings on whiteline's site. I'll check again. Or where they something that's meant for another car but will fit the legacy. I'll look into those BL/BP arms. I wonder if anyone makes adjustable stuff for that spot. Then the only arm left is the front most arm. I think superpro makes bushings for that. Or just get new OE ones, I think I saw them as being available.

I know how much a pain in the ass it is to drop a subframe and do bushings. I figured that I have the other car, so I can clean, prep, assemble the subframe off the car and then swap them. It's so much easier to swap a subframe when it has wheels and everything on it. I mean it's heavy but it makes it so much easier to work on.

But I like those subframe collars. Maybe I'll have my friend grab them for me next time he does some yahoo auctions stuff. Or just take some measurements and get them made here.

energy suspension carries quite a lot of different size bushings and they have size charts so if you can measure the size that you need most likely they have it or you can make it out of bigger ones they have. prices are much better than whiteline stuff

I'm also having a problem with the sunroof on my BE. It's nothing major at all but every now and then water will trickle through if the car has been sitting when it rains. I think it's the grade of my driveway though and how I park on it.

Park it going up a hill, down a hill, and flat, and pour water on the sunroof each time and see where you get your leaks.

Sorry if you already went over if you fixed the sunroof or not, too much reading for me up there hahah

I know energy has a lot of universal stuff, maybe I'll check it out, but I don't know if I want to get into that.

I mean the whiteline arms will take care of the lower arms and give adjustability. I can get new OE bushings for the upper control arm and for the front of the trailing arm. And then just figure out what I need for diff and cradle bushings and then subframe collars or whatever. And then the whole rear will be nice and tightened up. Lots of time, a little bit of money, not too big of a deal especially with the spare subframe to use to do most of the work without tearing my car apart.

So I just need info on the diff bushings. I can get the bushings that mount the rear of the diff from subaru or get inserts or poly ones from another car, just don't know which car yet. And then the fronts I would need to figure out. Subaru sells the whole bracket with new bushings but it's like $85 and I don't know how shot those bushings are. So more info on that stuff would be awesome. I'll search around some more because I'm not sure that would have shown up on any of my recent searches.

I didn't fix the sunroof yet. It sucks. I think I know where it's leaking from, I mean I can see at least some of the spots where it's leaking. I'm going to try some things but was looking for more thoughts on how to better seal it. And if anyone had dropped the assembly and cleaned out the channels to help me figure out if that's needed or if the water is coming in and getting in the wrong channel and that one isn't meant to drain but I don't think that is the case.

But it's definitely annoying. It's damaging the headliner and I have all the interior panels stripped now and they're not going back until I get the leak fixed. And I would like to be able to have my car a little nicer inside than it is without them there. So hopefully I'll have more time this weekend to try some stuff.

I got these bushes ages ago http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_det ... 906&page=2 (http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail.php?part_number=KDT906&page=2) - which are listed for later model Legacy and Impreza. I haven't installed them yet, but the bush dimensions are the same, so I'd assume they will fit.

On 2nd thought and re-reading your post - are you after the bushes that support the diff in the crossmember, or the bushes in the "arm" that bolts underneath the diff?

I haven't really inspected them but was going to do both. I mean if I'm already doing a bunch of it, I might as well do all of it and just build the spare subframe and then swap them at the same time.

Ahh ok, well if ot the one that holds the diff from the bottom, I actually got a Beatrush brace with solid (or near enough to it) bushes.
