Car has 80k on it and loses 1-2q of oil between changes...not positive but I have crawled all over this thing. It appears to be leaking between the block and head in the rear on the left side head is all dry from the gasket out but it is a difficult area to view.....is this a likely assumtion?

i would assume vlave covers or front cam seals before head gasket.

+1 on the vavle covers gaskets. when your headgasket goes you will know it.

bone dry around valve covers and cam seals..... no leaking @ front of engine.....recently replaced timing belt all dry in there. No coolant loss.... oil pan seal looks good. Is it possiable to have the headgasket leak oil? Thanks all

yes it is poss that your headgasket is only leacking oil. freind had the same thing on his impreza rs. change out the headgaskets. its almot time to do it anyways.

Yes, it is very possible to leak oil from the head gaskets. I've seen a newer Forester with the same problem.
