I just saw this on torontolegacys.com:

Anyone know how to do this? I think it looks pretty trick! Though I think it only works because of the drop and the completely clean back end.

The rear wiper. Its in the upright position. They are normally parked to the left.

hey, that's me in the red t-shirt!

The wagon belongs to my friend Bevan. That picture was taken at the big Toronto Subaru Club meet at Subaru of Canada in 2004. It was raining that day, so I'm pretty sure that he just turned the car off while the wiper was in the upright position... same thing happens to the front wipers.

Yeah, that would be the middle position so I'm not sure how you'd reconfigure it to start travel from there then cover both sides. The best you could do is start it from the opposite side.

Maybe he just unbolted it and reattached it a few splines forward.

That's not what he did... as I mentioned above, he simply turned his car off when the wiper was in the upright position.

Here's a pic of his car on a normal day:

Acutally that was my thought when I saw this post. Its always baffled me why they don't bring sedans with rear wipers to Canada given that we have more snow than most people ever see in Japan.

Do you really need a rear wiper on a sedan? I know my wagon gets clogged from spray, but the defroster works wonders on anything else.

A couple guys up here in T.O. have tried to get the entire rear glass from a JDM Legacy, but it's been really hard to source, not to mention cost prohibitve to get it shipped. I've seen a couple WRX guys who have done it.

yeah, :( I need to do that. I hate not being able to see out my back window. =\

Some day, I'll post pics of my car, and each window will have it's own wiper, including the headlights and rear view mirrors... Okay, that's not gonna happen. :p But I AM going to have a rear windshield wiper on my Sedan some day.

Yeah, but I think I will just get the wiper assembly and cut the OEM rear glass... Should be able to do it with some research.

Yah the defrosters work great but they take a while to clear the window enough to see out of it.

I thought this was going to be a thread about intermittent rear wipers, as that's what any car with a rear wiper lacks the most (having it always on is way unnecessary as spray never builds up that fast).

anyways, a sedan wiper would be way cool.

.

My '91 Wagon has intermittant wipers. I've looked into swapping over the wiper stalk as its easy on Impreza's (scoobymods) however on the Legacy for some mystery of god you must remove the entire steering wheel and alas I do not have a puller.

intermittent rear or front?

Both and not only that. The rear wiper's intermittant feature is adjustable with a dial. I've already pulled the relay from the rear of the car.
