The USDM GT / Legacy lights are all the same as far as I'm concerned.. what exactly are you referring to? Are you confusing JDM tail lights (red and white) with the USDM ones (Red / Orange)?

I'm referring to the back of the car - i HATE how the tail light goes all the way across the entire trunk...i just want 2 tail lights (one on each side) below are 2 links...this one is of my car (mine has a wing tho) http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2003/sub ... index.html (http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2003/subaru/legacy/l_sedan/933/pricing/index.html)
*see how the trunk has the red light that goes all the way across the back?)
and then this one just has the 2 tail lights, one on each side http://www.edmunds.com/pictures/VEHICLE ... 0042-E.jpg (http://www.edmunds.com/pictures/VEHICLE/2005/Subaru/100396965/2005.subaru.legacy.30042-E.jpg)
so what do you think?

Good luck if its anything earlier then those generations with the 2 side lights only. You could always paint the center garnish to the body color of your car.. but remember the reverse lights are on the center garnish.. so you will have to leave those masked over so that they will be functional later on. Other than that.. not sure of many other ways you could do it.. unless you want to do some heavy fiberglass work or something super custom.

thank you for the great tips!
basically i hate the way my car looks right now...it is silver and feels so plain...first thing im doing is im getting it painted black and then i want to hook it up to make it look cool and hopefully make it look as much like a GT as possible (without spending an insane amount of money) got any other advice/suggestions for me?
i'm a girl and i don't know much about cars to begin with so keep that in mind too ;)

What model is your car currently.. give us a little info about it. And btw.. silver is an awesome color.. i happen to rock a silver car myself. Don't get your car painted.. its a waste of money.. it will cost you like $4k and its un-necessary. Here are some simple yet effective things you can do to make your car look nice:
JDM Rear Tail Lights (JDM = Japanese Domestic Market)
JDM projector headlights
Lowering springs / Struts to lower the height of your car and make the stance nicer
Larger rims.. such as 17" JDM rims or something nice with some nice rubber
Different exhaust (I reccomend SPT subaru performance tuning IF you can find one)
There is lots of stuff you can do to these cars.. just have a browse around the members rides and try to find something in the same generation / series of your car.

it is a 2003 Legacy L (silver). 88k miles on it...still in good condition (mechanically) but the cosmetics can use updating...its not that i hate silver cars lol i just hate MY car...i love the idea of lowering it and also getting some nice rims that alone would make it look awesome...i just am absolutely set on changing those rear lights...i think it makes the car look so dorky...im gonna upload a picture of my car for you guys when i can so you can see exactly what im talking about...
what are projector headlights?
how do i browse the members rides? are there pics uploaded onto this site?

If you hate your car, then it's not the car for you, no matter what you do to it. The vast majority of us really like our cars, and just do things to make them more personal. We don't hate them.

you are confusing two bodystyles of the same car.
sounds like you prefer the 05-09 body style better than the 00-04...
not much you can do to make the trunk look like the trunk of a different car.
the tail lights you have ARE the standard GT tail lights for your model of year
the 05 is the first year to do away with the center lights.
in short, what you want is not possible without getting creative and risking the ghetto/rice(cheap looking) effect.
you could paint, or spray tint the center piece, but as stated before you have to leave your tail and reverse lights unpainted.
my old legacy was silver, and i enjoyed playing off of the red, black, and silver color scheme. tint your windows, red front emblem maybe? black rims with red accent/or calipers, black rain guards or sunroof deflector(if you have one) will put some black accents and make the silver pop better...its not for everyone, just some ideas.
paint those strips in the middle of the door body color.
take a digital pic and mess around w/ photoshop a bit

What is it about the GT tail lights that make it that different from the L?

If you want to make your L into a GT go to a junk yard / people who are parting out their car and purchase:
-GT front bumper
-GT Rebar
-GT Rebar foam
-GT side skirts
-GT rear bumper
-GT spoiler
-GT grille
-GT Badge
-GT Fog lights

Maybe you want it to look like this:

It's not my thing, but everybody's different.

You can have a body shop paint that center section to match the vehicle paint if you like the way that picture above looks.

Get a sign shop to cut you some color matched vinyl. At least that's removable.

^ yeah good point.. get someone to custom cut you some vinyl to go on it. Then just clean the part VERY VERY good.. and stick it on.. and call it a day.
or you can go with the more expensive option i mentioned. Remove the center piece.. bring it to a paint shop and have them color match / spray it for you.

Silver is a sweet color! I looked for almost a year to find my GT and I was looking for Silver and White... Ended up with the white... Keep the Silver, black is a PITA to keep clean and nice, trust me...
As for that tail lights, I would paint it up! Take it to a shop like the other guys have said. Anything you do to your car to make it more personal, makes it YOUR car. I have thought of tinting my tails to match the windows, but have yet to...
I'm still new here also, but I have found more info here on my Legacy, then the last 2 years of looking on other Subaru sites...
