Checking Codes

I can get access to a code reader but though I would ask since I am not familiar with this car. Is there a way to check engine codes at home, or do you need a reader?

You can, but it's not worth the effort. Grab the OBD2 scanner and read the codes in under 30seconds. Don't even waste time with the factory diagnostic plugs (green ones under the dash). Seriously - trust me.
