Muse's '02 H6 VDC "Blitzen 6" - the un-update!
Well, once again, the Blitzen is changing hands, and so is this thread. I'm taking over the care of this awesome car, and it could not have come at a better time for me. With two blown up EJ25s and a dead-nuts unreliable Audi in my fleet, I need something that I can be sure is going to get me where I need to go.
And what better car to do it in than the car I fell in love with, all the way back in 2014?
I'll be sure to keep the thread updated, as things progress, and I do have some plans for this beauty. Nothing too drastic, but certainly enough to keep it fresh.

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
holy mother of god that is impressive but if you gonna buy h6 are you positive that you'll be able to use legacy sheet metal? the outback skin at least is wider and suspension is made to match thats why 00-04 legacies have 53mm offset while outbacks come with 48mm and much larger tires. not sure if you'll be able to use those rims with outback size tires and not rub on those nice bilsteins. just a thought though dont get discouraged yet. dont settle for stock exhaust build your own or get aftermarket cause if and most likely it is the same as h6 and it just sucks balls.

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
If you need a car you can install that lot on mine ;)
Btw.
You would'nt happen to have a spare set of those door-lights?
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Thats a very nice project! lucky you, parts can be find much easier than us ! Keep us updated
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Awesome, not even I seen all these parts. I've know what was coming and what he had. But seeing the list and pics I'm impressed.

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Thanks guys. You know what? I originally wanted to convert to the SportShift they have here too, but I had a few problems.
1) I can't find a steering wheel that has BOTH cruise control and SportShift switches.
2) That transmission never came with the RS30/Blitzen6, and looking through the service manuals things don't really match up, so I don't know how easy it would be to make it work.
3) The transmission is just so heavy!

That's why I'm still wanting to get doors. Then the exterior should all match up (except the rear quarter, but I have a plan...). Also, I'm going to be effectively changing all the footwork of the Outback. I won't be using Outback tires or any of that either, so I'm hoping there won't be an issue.

? Do you mean the plastic light covers on the front door panels? I thought everybody had that... I don't have lights until I get the doors.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
No, i only have black plastic covers for where they are supposed to go.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
i've got a set of extra panels with lights

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Im really really looking forward to seeing all those parts on one car :smt007

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Really curious what you'll do about the rear quarters. I'm assuming this is being done on a usdm car. Fenders are tighter to the car than usdm as I found out the hard way, was thinking of swapping in jdm doors but the rear quarters would still need to be replaced or "Modified" was not willing to go that far.
Good luck. Your list of part is as impresive as mine for my conversion.

Do you have a parts list I could see? Your rides thread doesn't list much.... and I'd like to see what else I could do. The only thing I don't have is the gauges, but I'm already looking for RS30 gauges.
RS30 isn't common here, so finding stuff is difficult and takes time (Hence, my problem with the hood).
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Actually, you covered everything I got, except the BFM and maybe the factory tinted side glass.
Cheers
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Actually there's something minor, the license plate frames they have legacy stamped on them and the legacy part glows in the dark. I'll take a pick when I visit my car soon.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Can't wait to see how this turns out, a great list of parts you have here. A couple questions for you though, do those rear aero spats on the B4 bumper fit USDM bumpers and do you happen to have part numbers for the Cusco front and rear strut tower bars? Thanks a bunch.
How close are you to buying a car? Seems like you have nearly all the parts you need/want for now anyways...
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
I have no idea if the rear aero fits on the US bumpers. Somebody else may be able to answer that.
Click here for Cusco tower bar catalogues:

As for buying a car, I won't be arriving in the US until sometime this winter. The car has to wait until then. I will be looking for an '03 Legacy Outback VDC Sedan in either Black Granite Pearl or Titanium Pearl and I will accept nothing else. It should still be easier to find than the S401 was, so I'm not sweating it.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Okay thanks for the info, are you moving back to the US for good, cuz I was hoping in 6 months or so when I can afford to buy my parents car, I would be looking to buy some JDM parts from you down the road...
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
This project looks like a blast…. Good luck and I cannot wait to see the final product.

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
I finally found a GT30 illuminated gauge set! Still no hood though. Well, none without damage anyway. And it looks like I'll be getting the doors for free. That is, as long as wagon doors fit the sedan... I'll test fit the rears on the S401 when I am given the donor car.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Wagon and sedan doors are the same.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
Okay, so I've been looking online for the car I will get for this project. It seems all the candidates have 100+ mi on the odometer. Are there any problems I should be keeping an eye out for? Are there any regions of the US I should avoid more than others? What else should I be paying attention to?
The things I'm looking for so far:
1) 2003 Outback Sedan H6. 2003 was the only year that had the dark interior. I'd prefer 2004, but there were no dark interiors that year (as far as I know).
2) Color must be Black Granite Pearl or Titanium Pearl. They were the only colors that had the dark interior. I'm having the whole car painted WR Blue Pearl in the end, so the color is only important for the interior.
3) McIntosh audio package. I suppose I could retro-fit if I can't find a car with it.
What else should I be looking for?
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
You could always swap interiors, but that would be a task all in its self to find one. If you plan on looking anywhere in the US, I would keep New england and Northern US last since most of the cars would have rust on the under carrige and engine bays.
-
Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
So the wife (this'll be the wife's car, afterall) okay'd the WR Blue Pearl (or Blue Mica in Japan) paint job, as long as the interior is decked out in pink or..... "something cute". :smt011
Found a number of the Outback sedans with the dark interior, but none of them are VDC... so still looking. Although, as I said before, interior color might not be an issue anymore....

Re: Yamazaki's project "D model RS30/Blitzen6"
changing interior is a tedious job i got all my parts off a wrecked legacy, and it is at least a weekend of work, still need to fix my dents before i tackle interior, but i'll let you know how long it takes once i'm done
