I'll add to the first post if you PM me a pic and so we keep it all together in one post. This can give an idea to new and current members on how to do their intake setups.

    Re: Custom intake setups

I just bought my first Soob, a 1997 Legacy 2.5 GT. And I have been having fuel efficiency problems. I have been going through a tank of gas with 80% being Highway driving and receiving ~200 mi. I have a J-bend CAI ready to install and planning on purchasing NGK V-Power spark plugs replacements.

What's the difference between CAI and SRI? Any pics would be appreciated?
And will I get performance gain with my project objectives?

quick question.. where do people get the 3" or longer pipe connector rubber piece? All the auto places seem to sell really cheap crappy 2.5" or less ones. Thanks.

    Re: Custom intake setups

Do you guys think it would be worth it to do something like the custom set up for the BE's. but delete the stock airbox and use an inline air filter, like a PRM or BMC CDA?

    Re: Custom intake setups

d1giPhux: if you have not found the coupler yet try lowes or home dept, in the piping section by the PVC pipes etc. There is a 3in to 3in rubber connector i have used before. It is a rubber connector with a piece of metal around it, but the rubber slides right out. Only about 4 bucks i think, good luck

ya it seems like it would be better if you used rigid piping, and then it wouldn't be ribbed eather.

    Re: Custom intake setups

Yeah but thats where the ribbed pipe comes into play making more power... Its proven to make the turbance in the air flow which is making more power then a straight smooth pipe. I cant find the link but it was proven and dyno tested before.

    Re: Custom intake setups

^^ you're a little off with that, but you're going down the right path

Ideally, you would use a pipe with dimples or small ripples in it. The ribs on your pipe (matty) piping are much larger than ideal. The purpose of ribs or dimples is to reduce the build up of a low velocity boundary layer of air, which creates drag on the air passing by it. You would do better with a larger pipe with a grainy (truck bedliner-like) surface on the inside. The tube you are using will create a bunch of low velocity pockets along a small effective airway (equal to roughly the ID at the smallest cross section).

^^^ Pish.... like you would know

I want to give this setup a shot with rigid piping. Might as well make use of that hood scoop.

Would it be worth it to dimple it or is it marginal?

Wondering if anyone has any advice as to if/what kind of performance cold-air intake systems I can use on my 2007 Subaru Legacy SE 2.5i. Everything I see is for Impreza's and GTs. What gives? Anything I can use besides a replacement air filter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a brand new in box subaru performance tuning cold air intake for an 05-06 legacy gt or 05-06 outback xt. I dunno if it would work on yours but it's available, I bought it on a impulse buy and I probably would only be able to use the cone filter out of it now that I got it out of the box and started to look at my maf sensor and junk. I got mine for like $150 on good ol' ebay. The destructions say it ain't California legal though.

he still had it for sale, He contacted me not long after that post. it's $200 though and would require too much fabrication on my part to be worth it.

    Re: Custom intake setups

Yes, i will chime in since i said i would come in and out of the legacy site still... I actually have 2 intakes, 1 from the shop that was their mock up one since they arent making them anymore i picked up 2 weeks ago and have 1 that the seller never picked up from me so i refunded his paypal money. There was only 10 made total. So if Anyone wants them let me know, 1 is complete kit and the other is just the intake box/lid... So piping will be needed. $150 and $100 just to get rid of them.

    Re: Custom intake setups

The STI uses a top mount intercooler, not air intake..

    Re: Custom intake setups

Just got my custom intake set up completed. And its so much better lol. It sounds amazing and there is definitely a power increase. What we did is just rip out the stock air filter and just put on the custom piping and new intake.
