I'm thinking about running 225/445/17 on my 2003 Legacy with stock suspension. Will I NEED to roll my fenders? I'm not opposed to doing it, and I for sure can. Also, any other comments on this tire size on my car, such as issues that could happen as far as fitment?

You should be fine. 225/45 you should look for a 17x7.5 or 17x8 wheel, otherwise you'll have a fatty look.

Yeah I want to go with 17x8. Sounds good. The guys are nasioc were skeptical of the fitment but I figured I'd ask here.
Thanks!

Great thread. I thought I'd add a few online resources to it for posterity.
Wheel Offset Calculator - useful for comparing offsets and width differences
Tire size calculator - useful for comparing tire size diameter differences (but you need to confirm specs on the specific tires you're looking at)
Also, I have this Wheel Rite tool. It's pretty cheaply made and far from ideal, but does help you out on a ball park fitment. You need to be good at converting backspacing to offset numbers to get the most out of it.

im tossing KYB GR-2 struts with H&R sport springs onto an 01 GT, probably going to be seeing a drop of about 1in to 1 1/2in, i wanna run 17s but i dont know what depth or offset I should go for and what size tire to run. I like the lower profile tires like 40 or 45, so i was thinking 215/45/17 would be what I want to go for, what are your suggestions for rim sizes w/o rolling or pulling the fenders?

You all will have to do some reading on this one and "tyre" = Tire to us Americans! Good info though I think.

245? wow thats pretty wide in there w/o having to roll them. I just dropped it about an inch all around and my 17s still look small in there, they are 205/50/17s i wanna say, ill have to look up rims to see what I can get for a decent priceOriginally Posted by Guig'z

I have a 98 bk6 lgt. It's sitting on megan track series coilovers, 12k up front and 10k in the rear. It's super stiff even on the softest settings. Right now I have snow flakes on. I've been picky on tims, but I saw what I wanted. I'm going to go with the xxr 530, 17x8.25 +35 wrapped with 235/45/r17. I don't have rolled fenders, I have a little camber 1.5 up front and 1.0 in the rear. I just want to see what you think.

I honestly didn't read through all of those comments to see if anybody mentioned this...but at least on the 95-99 Legacy's you can't even run a 17" 255 without rubbing. I'm running a 225/50R17 and had to roll the fenders in order to actually eliminate rubbing.
I found one really easy way to roll the fenders with some control was with a heat gun, which is very important to prevent chipping the paint and it makes the metal more pliable and then just using a rubber mallet with the wheel off the car to pound up the little lip. Took a little over an hour per side but looks and feels excellent!

Anyone know if a 215/45/17 on a 17x7 +48 would rub? My car is on stock wrx suspension.

Won't be a problem at all. I've run that exact fitment in the past (on BBS RKs), lowered 1-1.5" on coilovers, without issues.Originally Posted by 98legwag

Summer - 17x8" +48 DPTs with 225/45-17 Continental DWs. Prior to the DWs I ran 235/40-17 Falken FK452s.
Winter - Ver7 STI wheels (17x7.5" +53?) with 215/45-17 Hankook I300 winter tires.
Track / auto-x - 17x8.5" +44 CE28s with 245/40-17 Hankook Z214 R-compounds.
I have my fenders rolled front and rear. Front control arms are the longer, forward offset V8 STI aluminum arms; combined with maxed out angled camber plates I have -3deg camber up front, maybe a bit more. Rear has Hotchkis adjustable length lateral links, but I don't know exactly where my track width is compared to stock. About -1.5deg camber in the rear. The track setup still rubs in the rear, but not enough to worry about. Both street setups have no issues whatsoever.
