well for 1, this is for non turbo cars so warm air from the engine isn't going to change anything at a dead stp.Originally Posted by lord flashheart

ok your right on the first point, however i would like to challenge points 2 and 3.
on my toyota, when i tried this, i usually had to be going at least 40 MPH to before intake air was affected by scoop.
(i know this due to a few tests we did with fans, air compressors and an air temp guage) so 0-40 there was a very slight (.5 of a degree) increase in intake temp. the fan was plowing warm air all over the engine compartment.
granted, the hood angle is slightly different between subarus and toyotas.
with the toyota, the air was coming from behind the headlight, and the reason i put the shroud on the filter is because after i put the filter under the scoop i had a raised intake air temp because behind the headlight is a high pressure point. and after i sealed it it came back down. however, the factory set up still seemed to be the best mechanically because when i put in the hood scoop there seemed to be more noise above 65mph, the k&n filter gets discolored, the disposable ones get crazy dirty really fast, the rain would get the filter wet, not that it would really matter a whole lot cuz the truck ran so hot that by the time the small about of water reached the engine it would basically steam clean the motor. (which is the exact same thing sea foam does)
but since you mentioned the Plexiglas i am assuming this is more for the look than the performance of the induction system
and again. im not trying to be a dick. just sharing my experiences. CHEERS!

Whats best way for me to figure out if i have a SOHC or DOHC ? also what is best place for me to look to see if i have this MAF or MAP sensor. not sure what either of them look like. thanks
I to think i might have to fabricate some kind of cover for days when there are downpours maybe?
this will teach you how to decode subaru engine codes and tell you what sensors were used on what engines and what years and model.

count the cams?Whats best way for me to figure out if i have a SOHC or DOHC ?
a MAF sensor will be in the plastic intake tubing of your subaru. a MAP will be on the intake manifold, and MUCH smaller.
correct me if im wroung, but 1st and second gen legacies are all MAF, 3rd and on are MAP(and also SOHC)

^ Mostly true...... The California Model '99 Legacy 2.2L 30th Ann Edition (Gen 2 Legacy) uses the 2nd Gen EJ22. It is both MAP and single exhaust port. lol It is a real odd ball if I may say so..... Though it makes this a bolt on affair.

Well here you guys go, bill came to $196 after parts, fittings and build...Could of went cheaper but not for this quality that will last and not blow up on someone. The Front PVC line is too short and i need to go to the auto parts store tomorrow and get a 1/2" hose 3"longer then OEM. I have about a 1/2" hood clearance looking into the hood scoop when closed. on that pic of your(?) motor, the spark plug wires almost point to a bit gold box, that must be on your passenger firewall.

oh, ok, so its your intake box BS. i removed all mine and plugged them up somehow. my sisters been driving it for a while...no issues.
says it(00 outback) doesnt like hills to much....oh well.
my intake boxes and silencers and bs on the 00 just kept coming apart at the joints, etc. so i removed what i could, and actually used some intake boots i had laying around from a 76/78 datsun 280z to seal it all up.
hope these intakes sell for ya.
but i am wondering, would it be more cost effective to mold these from fiberglass, etc? or is there some issue im overlooking?

So i went to autozone.... they dont have our 14" intake filter, only a 11" so that is all BS. K&N i ordered up so i have to wait 3days. Drove around for 2 hours in the blazin sun today, poped the hood and the intake is box is not even hot... cool to the touch! I was so surprised everything else i touch is freakin hot! So Stainless sure does keep the heat out and away for sure!

Sounds good so far. thanks for the updates i think i am definatly looking into getting this, how much did they say at auto zone the prices was on the 14" filter.
i looked at my engine code says i got the EJ252 so i think i got the MAP sensor type aswell(on the front passenger side of the air filter box?)
Got to convince the wife to let me spend the money and might have to wait till mid month paycheck in april i could probably even drive up to tacoma and pick up aswell. If you have any left by then.
just was clicking around in the DIY forums and came accross a thread for an air spliter DIY viewtopic.php?f=39&t=10742&start=0
thought something like this may be nice add-on to the air filter system. also was thinking of some way to maybe attach a seal(like a trunk type seal) to maybe the heat shield for under the hood.
My thought here was if your cutting a hole for the air to flow threw and keep you stock under hood insulation could you cut it to to let the air threw, and then attach a seal to the liner that way you getting some seal between the hood and the air intake to keep the hotter engine air from being sucked in the air intake?? was going to take some pictures or draw it up to see what you guys think..
Bumpin for my old thread... I have 1 intake left i found on the shelf in storage. I know its not the FS section but anyone wants it for $100 just let me know.

you have that top mount intake still for sale?
do you have one left that would work on my car?
Chuck PMed me on it "1st" besides everyone else who has in the past but never followed with money. I still do have only 1 left, I been holding off on selling it cause it is the only one left and was indebate on if I want to install it on my 2.5l Outback. I'm leaning towards just selling it cause I do want that STI swap.
