The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

Well today it is a done deal. Paperwork signed and all. I traded in the old bike, an '81 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim, for an '08 Yamaha FZ6. It is Yamaha racing blue, and only has 490 miles. All ridden by an adult woman. This thing is mint! I will get pictures when I pick it up next weekend. Till then just a quick teaser canned photo. The mods are soon to come.

Here are the actual delivery shots......

    With previous owner....

    Front

    Back

    Side

    Summer Pictures..... Grosse Ile, Michigan....

Here are a couple of the mods that are planned.....

Titanium Leo Vince EVO 2 with Cat. delete..... Should be here Monday!

Thoughts here.... FX35 Projectors and HID.... (need to do a little more research here)

I will get some actual images of the bike up when I pick her up. Let me know what you think....

Well, after looking into it, I think I am going to do the retrofit to HIDs sooner rather than later. I just never knew that there are companies out there that make projectors that fit inside the regular H4/H7 reflector holes. What about you folks that have played around with HID, what would you recommend?

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

So, pictures added to the first post! Amazing little bike. Something about an engine that can go above 13,000rpm just gets me. lol (Not that I did.... I still have to finish the break-in..... 500 more miles below about 7000rpm....) I only took it on a short ride to move it from the seller to my fathers house.... I am currently on a trip and stuck in Iron Mountain, Michigan.... lol Worked out okay I guess. I will pick it up for summer use in about a week or two after I finish my move.... Let me know what you folks think! Ideas, Mods, etc....

Looks pretty nice. I've seen HID setups with smaller ballasts for motorcycles I think. Look that up if you're looking to do a retrofit.

^ Way ahead of you dude.

    http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/fz6-m...oth-sides.html

The low beam is a H4, and the high beam is an H7. The post above is how to use a single H7 retro kit. Others have bought two kits, and H4 and an H7 kit. I think it would be best to at least try to make the dual H7 kit work. There is actually a lot of room behind the fairing. Any tips on how to make the retrofit work would be great. lol I am pretty good with wiring.... Just need a little guidance. haha Thanks.

Low beam is an H4? That doesn't sound right, it's a dual filament bulb.

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

Lol yeah, they are a little odd. The right bulb from the riders position(H4 dual beam) is both high and low beam. The left(H7) is only on for high beam. So I guess the HID kit would both add HIDs, and add dual low, and dual high beams. They say in factory trim the high lights have a winking look. Lol the retrofits all have been using a HID bulb, with a moving shield(like FX35).

I get what you are saying, the H4 is the only bulb on in low, then for highs it kicks up to the high and the 2nd bulb lights up too... right?

^exactly. I think the headlight mod is going to be right after the LeoVince exhaust. Honest..... I hear more engine noise than exhaust note..... I need something to make the Harley guys look. Haha (oK... Harleys are ok too.....) I mean I have to be at least as loud as the cops Harley! Lol

lol My friends 06 Yahmaha yzf600r was like that. He also had a Yoshimara exhaust too. We used to bust his balls all the time about it. That's why I like the older carbed bikes (gixxers mainly) the exhaust note is awesome.

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

GSXR's are freaking amazing!.... But those dang insurance companies know EXACTLY what the heck those things are. Rocketship anyone..... haha That was the main reason for going with the FZ6, it is really cheap to insure, even full coverage.

However.... to Reason's post ^. I never noticed how much Yamaha stuff I have been dealing with.....

My first Motorcycle was some old 80cc Yamaha dirt bike.....

My first real Road bike was a 1981 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim (Which I just sold to help buy this new bike...)

My first car was powered by the Toyota 4AGE(1.6L, DOHC).... Yamaha designed the heads for that engine, which might help explain the 7800rpm redline.... lol (I straight piped it at one point.... Holy shit, that was the MEANEST exhaust note I have ever heard.... and yes, I was in highschool.... :smt009 )

(Not my car, but exactly like it....)

And now the FZ6.... Which there are already pictures of. lol I have to say that I loved the exhaust note of the 4AGE with a straight pipe. It didn't have that terrible raspy sound at low rpm. Quite smooth. It just screamed at WOT and anything above 3500rpm. It sounded SO freaking mean. lol

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

Lol well, after looking over the bike a few times I found an unknown mod that has been done. The front of the bike has been lowered by about 2 inches. The front fork was loosened and the mount was slid down to make it easier for Kate (previous owner) to ride. I like it. Makes it look and feel more over the wheel. VERY responsive compared to my old Maxim. Lol but that is not really that hard to do.

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

Added so pictures to the first post. I am getting excited to see the Leo Vince exhaust on the bike. Should be here on Monday. I didn't know that they were discontinuing the EVO 2 line for the FZ6. I had to search high and low for a good price and what I wanted.... I would have liked carbon.... but titanium should be sweet too! Couldn't find a carbon one.... Oh, and I have put on almost 2000 miles in 2 months! haha though 500 miles of that was getting the bike to Ann Arbor/Ypsi.

After the exhaust, maybe flush smoked blinkers and EuroTail kit for aesthetics??

Also, have you looked into a power commander and K&N kit?

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

I have been looking into the fender eliminator, blinkers, power commander, and a filter. I was going to look into a filter that does not use oil. I also did a mod to the air box. Lol sounds mean. The power commander would be a little way off, need more cash for that. As to the blinkers and fender eliminator.... Maybe. The new Leo's are so freaking loud. I would rather not draw even more attention. Lol let's just say that I drown out my buddies Harley. Haha

Lol a little worried there Reason..... What would you be thinking? I would love to put more money into the bike.... But it never fails.... My company just got sold(from Delta) to another regional airline..... The joke is that the new company will be called Pena Colada. Pinnacle, Colgan, and Mesaba..... Lol So.... I am saving money in the event things go crappy...

Well... I dont know what is out there for the bike but.. HID's, you have the exhaust covered, SS brake lines (which I can get for you ) Get rid of the orange reflectors on the front forks. I would change out the front and rear directionals, I would seriously look into flush mount designs. I know there will be some drilling, but it would be for the best. Tail eliminator, if there isn't one, cut it off! Do a swing on number plat holder if you have too. I would put the widdest rear tire that swing arm can fit. I'd probably wrap the header for shits and giggles to see how it would sound and if it would make a power difference. The side mirrors would be gone or replaced with smaller ones. They even have a clip on you can put on the hand grip, Okin has one on his Gixxer.

Get a smoked windscreen or smoke it yourself, I'd probably chop it a bit a couple inches so it wasn't so high. Maybe lower the bike an inch or 2. Take the sticker off the swing arm. But wuth the tail piece removed it will look like a new bike. Ok that's all I got for now lol

Re: The new wheels.... '08 Yamaha FZ6

Quick update on the bike. I am planning on breaking her out around April 15th. Before then, I have two mods planned. First, I plan to change to Pazzo Shorty levers, black with titanium adjusters. The second would be to swap out the handle bars for a set of FZ1 handle bars. It should move the riding position forwad a little, and straighten the bars too. That should resolve my numb hand issue, along with adding extra foam grips. Picketed will come soon, once the parts are actually installed.
