4EAT power distribution and fuel economy...?

if i remember correctly when the 4eat is in the D position power is spread 90% to the front, 10% to the rear
in the 3 position - 50% front and rear

    so i've been wondering,
is it potentially hazardous to switch from D to 3 while at a roll or accelerating/decelerating?
    or from 3 to D while accelerating/decelerating?
is it bad for the transmission to be in a 50/50 split in normal DD?
i've noticed the engine stays at a higher rpm in 3, so is it safe to assume i'll be getting less mpg?

thouht i'd ask before i continued testing my way into a blown diff.

When in D and CRUISING (constant throttle, constant revs, etc), the torque split is 90/10,
but the torque split is varied depending on rpm/ tps/ speed inputs from the various sensors.

The box is completely electronically controlled so by changing ranges (D<->3) the box will not change if it is going to damage itself, it will operate the torque-converter and appropriate solenoids and torque split for the given input from the driver

Of course it'll stay at a higher rpm in 3, it's in "3rd gear" as opposed to allowing itself to go into "4th gear"
(these boxes are a true 4-speed automatic with lock-up torque converter)

^ yea drive (D) pretty much will take care of everything. unless you dont want it to shift up (because it will if the tires continue to spin faster), then put it in a lower gear.

Also 3rd doesn't lock it into 50%/50%. pretty sure the car still needs tire slip in third to go to a 50/50 split.

Re: 4EAT power distribution and fuel economy...?

My understanding was that the power distribution was more or less 50/50 in 1st and 2nd only, 3rd and 4th are 90/10.

And odds are that if you are accelerating hard enough for power distribution to matter, you aren't going to be in 4th, or probably even 3rd.
