    Dead's 98 BD GT/K Limited Turbo conversion complete 8-12-16

1998 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited Sedan
ej25 twin cam, 4EAT auto (stock)

I decided to add prices and places I got the parts. I have had so many people ask where I got my bumper and what not. I also listed the years I got them since the market does change. (added 2-27-13)... Got the idea from argaretty.

This is my weekend ride. I used to work for a friend that fixed insurance totals. Before I got "White Lightning", I wanted a 2.5 RS Impraza REALLY bad! Part of the reason was my Silvia was getting me in trouble driving every day (street racing) and I wanted a 4 door. I had worked on and driven tons of Outbacks, but this was the first GT I got to drive. When it came to the shop, it was hit in the front and in need of a bumper and some metal work. I drove it out to State Patrol Inspection and feel in love with it! It was a one owner and super clean inside!

This was by far the nicest car I had ever driven that felt solid. I asked the boss how much and he said "no, it goes to the lot. I'll get you another one". I said fine, but "this is what I want, a limited 98-99 GT with an auto". The auto would keep me from racing and I liked the darker interior color of 98-99. I looked, he looked and finally one day one came up at the auction. This was about 4 months after I first drove the white one. It was bright red and that was the one color I DIDNT want. It was hit in the right rear door, but would take little to make it drive and parts cost was low, it was all labor. It sold for more then I could afford.

I finally asked him "how much for the white one?". He thinks about it, knowing I wanted it, but knowing that he could make a lot from the car. He says $4800 and it's yours!" Mind you this was 2007 so she was worth about 6-7K. I said ok, I'll see what I could do. I had 2K saved and then got a car loan for the rest and called and said "if you sell it, I'll quit. I got a loan and will have the check by the end of the day!". He was shocked, but said ok. I got my car the next day!

I got it with about 164K on the OD. It now has 244K and still going strong. I did have a slight problem with the original motor and spun a bearing, but thats the only thing other then the normal stuff. She now has been blessed with a plethora of JDM parts, and any unique OEM parts I can find. I dont plan on selling her any time soon, so I hope who ever I marry, likes it!

My poor BD... Almost seems like it gets no one love since the GT-B is back on the road. But have no fear! She has a new grill and a few other JDM goodies coming.

Thanks! I did a bunch of stuff last summer. I have a few more parts to install and she will look even more different.

I did get to pressure wash it the other day and clean all the gaps. I also noticed a shake with the brakes last time I drove it, so I need to check that out.

Finally got a nice day and some time and motivation to work on the BD today! =)

I cut my JDM Grand Wagon grill to fit the Limited JDM bumper. Looks great!

Also got my JDM BH/BE side skirts installed. Not completely done, but they are on. Still have some fitment issues but I'll figure them out another day.

And then figured I had a bit more time to add my JDM filler panels. They came white, so if I wanna go badgeless again, I can really easy.

Never mind the scrape on the bumper... LOL

And here are updated engine and dash pics... havent added any for a while.

    The Mines strut bar.

Well, the custom hood project is coming along nicely. I have a couple thing left to do, but it's done for the most part.

Hood is the factory BG/BD scoop hood. Figured the hole in the hood would be easier to deal with and it was.

The center scoop is from an Impreza RS/Outback Sport. I wanted a little bigger scoop so I figured why not? I had a bent up hood from a customer car and saved what metal I thought I would need.

The offset scoop I got from the UK for a GC Impreza. I have it lined up with where the air box is so it will be functional.

Still more work to go, but the hard part is done! =)

I wonder if a GC hood would just bolt on?

I know some will love it, some will hate it. This was all just an experiment to see what it would look like and also a bit of a slap to the bone heads that grind their paint off to let it rust and look cool.

The finished product for my hood project. I'm still waiting on my carbon main scoop, but I should have it tomorrow. It needs to re-cleared for sure though.

So it started as a normal BG/BD GT/Outback scoop hood. I grafted in the scoop section of a GC RS/Outback Sport hood. I then cut the small scoop in that I picked up from Ebay. The hood it's self was a bit trashed. Dented up and nasty paint, so it was a perfect candidate for this project.

I used a grinder with a 36 grit disk to strip the paint. Then prepped it and cleared it with normal clear coat. I have cut and polished the paint to give it a smother finish and it also seemed to give it more depth as well.

It does look pretty neat in the sun! Cool little optical illusion.

These pics where without a lot of sun...

    Now with some sun!

The small scoop is a custom cast piece from a seller in the UK. I should have my other scoop today, not sure who makes that one yet.

Well, here they are! My custom painted Motegi wheels. I'm not sure of the model, but I know someone here more then likely does. I had picked them up for pretty darn cheap, but they needed a lot of help. I sandblasted them, did some work to some of the spokes then sprayed them with a base clear. It's a Nisssan color super close to the Volk TE37 color. Someday I would really like a set of Volk TE37's but that day will have to wait.

I got them with the gold paint... This is 2 of them after sandblasting. I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I so far have $150 into the wheels with buying them and the paint, so I figure thats a pretty good deal.

Loving this. I've been thinking for a while about getting a spare hood and splicing a bug or blob scoop on, but damn this looks really good. Nice work!

You say that now. But we all know parts get swapped between both cars.

Love the v3-6 scoop, but not so fond of the wee side scoop, always thought those were pretty gay/show-off-y.

(Hey, someone has to play the devils advocate, or sidekick in my case )

:P I actually like the little scoop. Gives it a little more of an aggressive look. I should have the center carbon scoop re-cleared on Sunday. Should make it look much better.

Well it's the right car to go on to get that aggressive look, the ol ltd bumper do wonders for that, it's a mean looking little beast, with that and all the other mods!
