Started if the day by registering the car.passed safety am l/m no prob. So I picked up some new wheels. Then washed the car and polished the lights and fixed the JDM fog lights and glued on the subie embelm. Also picked a hoodscoop from a 90s outback sport, a steering wheel and mud flaps for all four wheels.![]()

looking good but i do see one issue, you have some mean positive camber going on in the front.....i would highly recommend going for an alignment

Will do. And thanks guys. I'm trying to get the out back running so I can get this in the garage and swap the motor.

nice engine, thats what i have in my Impreza swap, v3 STi.... should make your leggy go quick!
Did you do it yourself? Cuz I don't want to pay some one to do the wiring but I wouldn't know where to start
No, no ,no I'm not insulting you, I'm describing you!
Two LCD screens.. On each screen you have the Factory Service Manual for each harness.. Move systematically until its merged.. hours of tracing and solder, shrink wrap and burns :-p

Ok ill give it a try. And if not send it to metric motors. Oh yeah and I got the paint. I decided to go with rally blue, single stage. I figured forest green would be a pain to cover with white. And it will probably get banged up so no point in putting a lot of money in paint. I'll post pics of the color after I test shoot it.

Vinyl is also a cheap option
Vinyl?

Vinyl Wrapping. Cheap and to the point:-D

Gotcha. Well ill consider that when I put this in the wall or something. :S

Yeah I did the wiring in the swap myself. It's surprisingly easy, but you need both ECU pinouts. Then make a spreadsheet and start filling in the blanks. I want to do another swap project but I don't have time or space right now...
Do u know where I can get the ecu printout? Is your impreza pretty quick? Any guesses on what kind of performance I will see from this? How high do these jdm engines rev? How much turbo lag do these have?

i can tell you anything you want to know about that engine you have pictured above
JDM MY97-98 v3/4 STi EJ20K
shim under bucket, 8250 stock fuel cut, 7900 redline, sodium filled valves, vf23 turbo
3 plug ecu (i sure hope you got an uncut harness and ecu with the engine)
wasted spark instead of coilpacks
the EJ20K STi is one of the most aggressively tuned factory STi's, at least 280chp
i can give you the JDM ecu pinout but i dont have a ecu pinout for a 95 Legacy
Well, the STi Ver III and the STi Ver IV had different power outputs... In addition to that, the IV feels even stronger because of it's different tune. The III had a more linear power curve while the IV had a sharper curve when the turbo spooled up. The cams and heads were also different. The heads on the IV were the same as the V and VI.Originally Posted by elislider
In short, they should not be lumped together when referencing the engines.
Fun fact: The STI Ver IV was what the 22B was based off of.

agreed.
in other news the coolant tank on that JDM engine looks like its not original... unless its a very early MY97 engine
That would be great if you could give me as much info on the jdm wiring as possible. and unfortunately its a cut harness. ecu and turbo come with it. I have to get my own intercooler. I couldn't find a motor with the harness intact I'm still mulling over the idea of a EZ30R swap instead of jdm swap. But I'm not sure what that intails. And a high compression hybrid 2.2-2.5 is still tumbling around in my head. The company I bought the motor from will do the wiring for about $900. But that would push the budget right to the limit. As for the motor, I'm not 100% positive its a ej20k. I just looked it over and used my jdm knowledge best as I could to figure what it was and based on the ignition system I thought it was a EJ20K. It could be a k or g of a 7 for all I know lol.

I suggest an EZ30D instead of an EZ30R. Supposedly, the immobilizer makes it really difficult to swap.Originally Posted by lord flashheart

or swap EVERYTHING..... buy a salvage from auction and go nuts :-p

do you have any more pictures of the engine, or of the vin tag from the car the engine came from (usually importers include those). how much of the wiring between the engine and the ECU is included?Originally Posted by lord flashheart
Haha well the engine swap budget is about $2000. I got the jdm motor for 900 bucks and paying metric to wire it will be another 900 plus an intercooler puts me right on for my budget.( and yes I've got an exhaust for the jdm motor.) I am just curious on the pros and cons of an h6 vs a jdm swap.
I don't have anymore pics. I'll grab some when I go to the shop tomorrow. And I'm not sure. He didn't tell me because I was just going to have them do the wiring.
Just a little side info, I'm getting the motor from metric motors in Utah. They are very highly recommended by everyone I've talked to including the dealer. They offen build 800hp subaru engines. They rebuilt the EJ255 in my outback with forged internal and basically made it a
Ej257. The guy who is doing The wiring does nothing but wire Subaru swaps. He has a sweet rhd GC with a jdm swap. I'm just telling everyone their reputation so u know I didn't get it from some shitty eBay seller.

theres some very reputable ebay sellers, I got my swap a few years ago from JHot.
sounds like youve already got everything mostly figured out and planned, once you get the engine in there, you'll forget about the other swaps you could have done, because the EJ20K sti is pretty awesome![]()
Ok sweet. Anything I need to look for when doing the swap as far as vacuum lines, egr, and emissions related stuff.

So tiny update. I decided to for go the turbo option (as bad as I want to do a turbo swap) and the same company is going to build me a 200-225 HP 2.5 naturally aspired engine that will be 'plug n' play' with my wiring harness and ecu. It will have a virtually flat torque curve. Which IMO will be better for rally cross. Anything more than 200 HP on dirt is hard to control. And with the turbo lag it would make it even more difficult.( I know this because of how my outback turbo reacts on dirt. It's ether I get no over steer with no boost. Or my ass end is trying to pass me.)
No, no ,no I'm not insulting you, I'm describing you!
Did you mean you're not going to do the turbo option? Wanna sell that turbo engine?
