BD/BK/BG dash & cluster swaps. (work in progress)

Not finished... just souring info... correct my info if I am wrong ... please post pics ..

    [ Cluster ]

    JDM/EDM/USDM GD cluster:
-All GD clusters are the same size , but most of the time its the STi cluster everyone wants.
-You will need to trim a fair amount of inner support from the dash & legacy cluster shroud.
-You will need to shave down some of the rear plastic from the cluster.
-Wiring nightmare.... unless you have the original harness.
-The cluster is not as wide as the legacy so there are gaps on the ends...

    JDM GC v.3 STi Clusters:
-they fit right in. Only thing is you gotta convert to the oldschool speedo cable, and ditch the electronic.
    -custom mounting brackets
-only pre face lift, so version 4 and up are totally incompatible.
-You lose the door open functionality of the legacy. The legacy says what door is open, the impreza just shows that a door is open.
-You might want to find one with the 240k speedo though, as standard only goes to 180k... (111mph)
-Additional lights for intercooler waterspray, and if you get one with it, a DCCD display.
-Reuben has done this..... will get more info.

I'm going to repost and paraphrase some info I put in my build thread over here. I'm installing my cluster this weekend after I get the parts necessary to reprogram the odometer. I'll take some pictures after it is installed.

Here's a Google Docs spreadsheet for the wiring necessary to use an 02-04 WRX cluster in a 98-99 Legacy. 95-97 Legacy will require a three wire speed sensor swap and wiring. An 05 cluster will work as well but you'll have to use a relay to invert the ABS light behavior. Keep in mind that sometime between 02 and 04 the WRX diagrams reversed the A and C connectors. Mine is made from the 02 WRX diagram where the A connector is leftmost when looking at the cluster from the back and C is rightmost. I haven't wired this cluster into my car yet but I am working on it soon, and as far as I know this diagram will be correct. If not, I'll update it.

With a minor change or two this diagram will also work for an 04 STI cluster with the red lighting and gauge sweep startup. I might try to score one of those someday.

Here's a picture of one I built last week to put in my car with the side gaps covered.

Here's one (not mine) that exaggerates the gaps and shows the fitment. The flash makes it look worse.
99 Legacy GT WRX - Now for sale!
    05 Legacy GT Limited 5MT Wagon - Stock-ish.
02 Outback Limited 5MT - Lifted, Dual Range
    84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/6-speed
85 Silverado - Low and slow tow rig
