Last time I autocrossed (which was my first time) I had generic tires that went bald by my second heat so I'm wondering what tires to get that wont get chewed apart and provide pretty good grip. try to keep the prices at a reasonable low.

i think you should first take a look at your conditions. if you are ok with a softer tire, they will burn up faster but give more grip in lower temps. although the firmer tires need more heat but last a bit longer. so i guess if you are crushing the turns and taking names you can get away with a harder tire (heating up the rubber compound / sticks more than when cold) . i prefer medium density tires they kinda give a nice balance on the track and regular driving. also usually the softer tires are going to be more expensive...
then there is your rating; do you really need Z rated? maybe H will work for you...are you traveling at that velocity?
Goodyear Eagle GT's are a pretty good tire, i wouldn't go too cheap since they are the only thing that keeps you going any direction.

You also need to take into account your vehicle class - some classes have restrictions on the type/size of tire you can run.

In this case, you're going to have to compromise - any tire that offers fast warmup (soft compound) times is going to wear faster than a harder compound... and what;s your budget? "reasonable low" means different things to different people.
Maybe you can get lucky and score some soft compound tires from last season for less $$.

BFG KDW ftw!
look at what other people in your class are running. Dunlop star specs seem to be the new "in" tire, bridgestone RE1R are another favorite

I plan on getting the RE1Rs. They'll be great for autocross but won't be dedicated - I'll run them around the street all year too and they should last as long as any other high performance street tire. I've been doing this with Kumho MXs for years now but that's an older design and there are better tires available now.

Falken RT-615s or BFG KDWs. Both have excellent grip dry, but the KDWs do very well in the wet as well.
