RX7 trans swap.... Has it really been done?

Can't find an actual example of it having been done but have heard that it'll work. I've heard everything from bolt on to needing adapters. Yes i realize it would me make rwd.

dont know about rx7 trannys, but this guy... http://www.billsautofab.com/ is in the process finishing the R&D (about a year worth, unfortunately) to bolt a Subaru EJ-series engine to a Toyota W- or some R- series transmission.

but realistically, unless your making gobs of power idk why you wouldn't just use a modified suby 5spd.

any particular reason why you were thinking rx7?

the reason for the rx7 trans is supposedly they are bolt on (barring custom drive shaft) for the ej series subaru engines. so pair that with the turbo rx7 trans and it should be a very strong combo. you can get those transmissions on ebay for 350.

Sounds like BS to me, I don't see it working without a custom bell housing, then you have to figure what flywheel/pressure plate combo will work, then you need the drive shaft, then you probably need a new tranny mount because the mounting locations are different. for $350 i would think you could get somebody to crack open your case and convert it to RWD...

Not to mention, the people that are making sizeable power in FD platforms these days (high HP rotaries and LS swaps) are all tossing the Mazda box in favor of Camaro/GTO 6 speeds.
