JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluster)

Can I get a JDM cluster for my 97 BG and just install my USDM speedometer? Also just to clarify everything else will be plug and play correct? Specifically will the PRND321 in the JDM dash work?

Or is there somewhere I can buy just the PRND321 piece and instal it in my dash?

All clusters from 95-99 have the location for the shifter tree (PRND321) regardless of auto / manual.

Do you happen to have pictures of the back side JDM cluster?

I think you're missing the real issue - do you have the plugs on your existing harness to go INTO the JDM cluster?

That JDM back also has quite a lot of additional flow lines that the image chuck posted doesn't have.

looks like your golden.. All the flow lines still match up to the same amount of pins on the 3x large connectors.

Same amount of screws and connectors on the speedo just unscrew, remove and insert your old one.

    Post pics after!

I havent boughten one yet. As huffer stated i need to see if the stock wiring harness even has the option for that.

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

    1) Both clusters have the EXACT same connectors (3x Large main harness)
    2) Both clusters use the same style and mount points Tach/Speedo
    3) All the traces / flows are the exact same except for the upper "light panel" that gives you the door open/ajar and the Tach.
    4) The center connector that housed the shifter tree (PDRN321) should be interchangeable with your USDM unit.

It pretty much is. Except it also has the gear selector. I just need to find out if my current wiring harness has the plugs for it.

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

I don't understand your concern the gear selector is a small circuit board that is placed in the center of the cluster. Your usdm cluster has the identical board. Just swap it and plug it back in.

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

Right, the big question is does the current wiring harness (not cluster) even have the wiring for that? Or is the wiring already connected through one of the 3 big ones? (i think this is what your saying?)

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

Your usdm cluster has that circuit board therefore it has the connector which goes into your harness. Just take your cluster out and compare. It takes less than 10 minutes.

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

Hmm. I wonder if there are any USDM clusters that had the PRND321 that i could just swap into mine. It'd be a whole lot cheaper than getting a JDM one.

All I want is to have the PRND321 in the cluster since ill be getting rid of it next to the shifter.

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

So let me get this straight.
    1) You have a Auto/4EAT legacy now?
    2) Your removing the shifter tree from your shifter box?
    3) Your current cluster does not have a shifter tree

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

    1) Why are you removing the shifter tree from the shifter box?
    2) Your going to have to remove your cluster and check if your harness contains the connectors for the shifter tree circuit board.
    3) You can check the factory service manual for wiring diagrams to confirm the harness issues.

Im swapping in a WRX center consol. Assuming there is the wiring are there any USDM models that i could take the shifter tree out of?

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

Both the legacy and wrx center shifter boxes are the same size (or just about) that means that you only need to swap the center console and be done with.

I am sorry if i am not getting exactly what your trying to describe I just see pictures like

and the surrounding shifter plate looks the same as your legacy.

Not quire what i was talking about. That year doesnt swap in. Im talking about 02-04 wrx center console that swap right in. I was curious if any USDM subies have the shifter tree in the cluster.

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

Impreza GD 02-07 use the same center console + dash board.

Putting a 02-07 center console involves cutting the front section that sits under the dash.

Automatic GD cluster have the shifter tree in the cluster.

So after that being said what exactly is your issue/problem?

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

Chuck - I think you need to step back and start at the top again... it's pretty straightforward.

csweston wants to get the PRND readout in his dash cluster, because he's removing it from the shifter area. That's it.

He has just one option that I see: take the JDM dash cluster apart, put the readout board and plug into his USDM cluster, and then figure out how to wire it up.

If his cluster does not have the shifter tree then most likely it will not have the connector for the circuit board.

What I don't understand is how the hell do you remove the shifter tree from the shifter box?

Re: JDM Cluster + USDM Speedometer (Adding PRND321 in Cluste

^^ I don't think that was the original intention - but it's a simple enough concept, if the triggers are the same (but they're not).

csweston - if you open up the shifter surround, the PRND readout there is simply moving a light attached to your shifter position. It's not a set of relays hooked up to a display light like the dash cluster is.
