OEM JDM BD/BG GT-B/RS Limited photos!

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out all I can about the GT-B Limited's and JDM RS Legacy's. I cant really find too many photos of stock ones around. I was hoping that some of you guys in Japan and maybe Australia/NZ could help me out.

I'm basically trying to build a USDM RS B. Spec Limited... I'm planing on doing everything but a RHD conversion. I'm doing the same thing I did with my S13 and building what we "could" have had, if they would have been imported. No body kit, just OEM parts. I'm trying to locate and figure what I need to save for the parts... I dont even know if they made Limited RS Sedan's, but thats what I'm building...

Keep the info coming! This could be a great thread!

    Thanks for the help guys...

Alright, this will be a work in progress...

    side door molding is different.
    rear window wiper.
the shifter surround has the card holder.
    aero guards
    (I have all four!)

that's all I can come up with for now.

doesn't the GT-B have the "duel fog" button.
I've been looking for that for awhile now.

Yup they have a fog selector switch, and if you want extra authentic points, figure out how to wire up the outside lights to turn on(and stay on) with the signal lights(example:turn on left blinker, left outside light turns on to illuminate the corner).

Door cards and seats are also different....dunno how in depth you were looking to go though.

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos?

I did know about the side molding and the deck lid... Both things low on my list. I wont be changing the side molding as of now. The deck lid will be later...

Do you have pic of the Aero guards? That sounds interesting! And are they for or fit a sedan?

rear wiper and different fog switch is interesting... I have a line on a OEM Limited Fog switch, but dont know about any others...

Yeah, I'm trying to do all the lights as they should also... just waiting for the time to wire up my sides and the rest of the heads at the same time... Seats.... ehh... maybe some day. I like the ones I have, I just wanna convert them to heated... haha I'm going for practical mods at this point, but wanted a comprehensive list of everything different. I keep finding new things on my own, but if someone has ones of these, or knows the stuff already it would be nice! Maybe later on turn this into the BD/BG/BK JDM thread...

The only thing I would like is pics of everything. It's easy to find JDM GT-B pics, but not Limited or RS pics... Also looking for things from different years and such...

Only the GT-B limited has the dual fog selector switch and the card holder is only on automatics. Dead91Silvia, considering there's a '97 GT-B limited sitting outside in my driveway that's mostly stock, I'll take a bunch of pictures and send them to you. Give me a couple days for the weather to behave. However, the RS is a sedan version of the GT-B, not the GT-B limited. I'll dig up Subaru brochures from the era and scan those for you too.

    You rock!

Like I said, I'm building a car that the US never got, so I'm not going 100% JDM. A slight mix if you will... Any and all details would be awesome! I think I read some where, the GT-B Limited was only in Wagon form. As of now, I have all the USDM parts that could go on a BD that came from Subaru America. Heated mirrors and Heated seats are the last and thats just wiring, I have all the parts...

I'm also toying with the idea of doing a digi HVAC... Any input on that? I have seen the conversions done on S13's a few times and I know they are a challenge...

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos?

For the digital HVAC stuff, do a search in these forums. I sent info to somebody else who did it and I think they posted about it...

As far as I can tell from looking at them, the only difference between the GT-B limited and GT-B is the front bumper and foglight setup. The same goes for the TS-R limited, etc.. The "limited" bumper was only on wagons. I've posted a listing of all the 2nd and 3rd Gen Legacys that were offered here (Japan). I recommend you check that out so you better know what is available to borrow ideas from.

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos?

I'll see if I can find any info on it. I plan on keeping this car for a while. I need to do a heater core soon also, so that might be a good time to do it if I can find the parts...

I was wondering what the difference was with the Limited's and the regular GT-B's. Your pics will help out big time also. I really want to see what the interior differences are. I saw one members car from NZ or AU with some cool looking carbon/marble style interior trim. Looked stock, but figured the driver power window switch is mirrored and wouldnt work, but not sure. I'm a nut about detail. One reason I want "RS" badges for my car also.

Is this the tread you referring to?

JDM cars have a "brushed aluminum finish with a hint of olive green" Its still plastic and scratches just as easily.

From chuckthefucks old BD... not a very good pic:

Also, didnt I see a LONG time ago that someones BD had the retractable antenna on the bumper that is for parking???? Maybe I am thinking of something else.

Oh yea... and you could get a factory legacy skidplate too... they pop up every now and then... mainly on Australia ebay... postal vehicels here in the US sometimes have them too.

Retractable parking antenna is an aftermarket thing. You can get them on any car here. And we didn't have any skidplate option here. I'm guessing Australia is different though.

We have both dark and light woodgrain. Depends on the trim level. GT-B had dark, but GT and 250T had light.

They do have them here, after reading some articles on intercoolers I was gonna get one, but then found I have a plastic one which probably does the same as the alumi with regards to airflow.

I stand corrected. I don't have the "option parts" catalogue with that in it and I'd never come across one, that why I was sure we didn't get it...

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos?

If you want the wood trim you might want this?

On second thought half of it wouldnt fit. Shame. You could probably find someone to swap with though, the wood is not cool.

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos?

I'm adding some random notes as I think of them... Kinda trying to put together an easy USMD/JDM interchange tread... Might make it easier for some of us to figure out what will work and what wont without going crazy looking things up asking a question that might never get answered...

YamazakiSubaru, got me some excellent pics that I'll get posted... This is kinda turning into a what do we all have out there, in every country thread.... haha

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos!

Hey, I stumbled across this thread whilst searching for pics of GT-Bs, random!

anyway, this looks like an interesting project, respect for putting in all the effort. I live in the UK and U currently own a 1996 JDM GT-B, but I previously owned a 1997 GT-B Limited, which I am currently breaking for parts. The remainder of it will be going to the scrap yard soon.

The differences between GT-B and limited are more than just the bumper and extra fogs, although of course as you've probably found with these JDM models what's standard is hard to pin down as there seems to be so much variation and many exceptions to the rules.

What my Limited has/had that my GT-B doesn'/didn't (I put it like that because I have swapped many of the Limited parts to the older GT-B now) are:

    • Front bumper with extra fogs, 'limited' badge on lower grill.

    • "Fog select" switch next to the front fog light switch (I have this if you want to buy it, no need for it now).

    • dark, almost black 'wood effect' trim on stereo/AC surround, window switches.

    • wood (walnut I think) gear stick nob and steering wheel (partial leather).

    • slightly different seats and material.

    • cup-holder in rear armrest.

that's all as far as I can remember.

If you're interested i any parts let me know ASAP. I'm going away for christmas to italy and then back through the alps for some snowboard action (yes, in the GT-B, ready with new set of nokians!) so wont' be back until the 15th Jan, but when I do get back I will be cleaning up the rest of the old LTD and getting it taken away, so if you do want anything I'd have to make sure I take it off for you before that. Bear in mind that a lot of it's already gone, and certain things like the bumper and extra fog lights I've transferred to the GT-B.

I do have the steering wheel available - it's got some surface mould from sitting for over a year but it will clean up nicely with a good clean and some disinfectant.

Also you might be interested in the 'fog select' switch which is extremely rear. I have no need for it as I am using an extra standard fog switch instead.

Do let me know if you want any of that, or if there's anything else you're after I can see if I have it still. I have lots of photos too so if you want to see anything specific let me know.

I'd be interested to keep an eye on this as it progresses, so if you could keep updates going in this thread that would be great as I'll get email notification - I won't be checking the rest of the forum.

    merry christmas time!

PS, here's some pics of the Limited:

    I like the thread +1 !

I fixed the dash insert description and photo.. its a "brushed aluminum finished with a hint of olive green" stupid plastic.. stupid ebay making it sound like real aluminum..

Also the bumper antenna is called a "Parking Pole" and Peugoby's has it on his car => viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6401&start=120

All corrections are welcomes, just like I told Yamazaki. I'm dyslexic so I miss stuff all the time with miss spellings and such. Also if there is a discrepancy as well. I want this thread to be 100% correct.

I have more info, just havent had the time...

Very cool! As soon as your back from your Holiday, you should post some pics up in Members Rides and do an Intro thread! Looks like a clean BG! It's cool to see someone from the UK.

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos!

Awesome thread, loving the GT-B Limited look! The profile of the Limited bumper, especially, really transforms the Legacy. But taken together (Limited bumper, grille, projectors, folding mirrors, BG5 17" wheels, spats, smoked tails (non-amber), rear bumper lip, Bilstein lowered sport suspension, sport seats...) these JDM details absolutely *make* the look of the car, compared to all the USDM models. I'm looking into making this cosmetic conversion on my wife's '98 black USDM LGT BK wagon. So far, I've got the JDM projector headlights and a JDM RFRB grille installed (not GT-B Limited accurate, I know, but it beats the pants off the USDM grille IMO). I've just received a very nice set of unpainted black JDM Aero Guards/Mud Guards/Spats/Bungs (whatever they're called lol) from the UK. I welcome any other leads to reasonably-priced, excellent condition GT-B and Limited cosmetic conversion parts. Our LGT BK wagon is an excellent-condition Black Granite Pearl metallic automatic. I'm uncertain if this was a paint code offered in the Japanese market, however.

I do prefer the USDM BK smooth-roof wagon vs. the BG stepped roof... but I suppose for accuracy, a stepped-roof USDM Outback Limited could just as easily be converted to this GT-B look? I think the USDM Outback Limited roof rails match the JDM model as well, whereas the USDM BK wagon rails are shorter and thicker. I don't know if the two-tone color on the USDM Outback body panels is painted or if the lower cladding is some sort of sheet/applique?

Re: OEM JDM GT-B/RS Limited photos!

It's one thing to build a complete GT-B/RS replica, but another to make it yours.

I'm not doing a 100% perfect replica, I'm building a what if. It's like in Japan, they didnt have Silvias (coupes) with flip up head lights and we didnt get Silvia front ends. I'm building a "RS-Limited" that neven was produced, but the way I like it. I'm still rockin' my USDM SUS grill.

And yes, you be a true GT-B, you would need a BG roof style car with dual sun roofs, but thats what makes it a little more unique is having the BK low roof car over here and matching them to t a GT-B. This thread is for giving people the info needed for the JDM counter parts so they can find the parts they want and what all the differences are.

The thing is, even all the official GT-Bs (never mind the limited models) tend to vary so much from one example to another, that there really is no definite spec list for them. I am a member on UKlegacy.com and there are quite a lot of them on there, but it's rare to find two the exact same spec. The engines are basically all the same (the earlier GTs are different, kind of like the difference between WRX and STi on the imprezas), but in terms of fit and finish, so many variations.

Twin sunroofs are not always present either. Both my Limited and my current GT-B had them (after having them the first time I really wanted them again, so I held out until I found what I wanted), but many of them don't. They all have the higher roof though.

I still have a few parts if anyone needs anything, although most of the good stuff is gone and the rest is going soon. I have a Limited bumper that has some damage. It's repairable, but not ideal. If anyone's interested I am open to negotiating a price but bear in mind I'm in the UK so shipping might be an issue, particularly as it's already a bit frail.

I'll try to get the car cleaned over the weekend, get some nice pics, and post an introduction thread up.

If you got more pics, please feel free to post them up! Even more so interior pics! Finding that there are a few differences with USDM and JDM. Would be interesting to see what you UK guys got!
