    DIY: Door Card Fabric Wrap

I hated the stock color of my interior on my 97 Outback, so I knew I needed to do something about it. Carpet is being dyed right now, and am planning on getting WRX seats.

This DIY is for the door card inserts. It is a fairly easy and inexpensive way to spice up the interior.

    Tools Needed:
    1. Phillips Screwdriver
    2. Small Flathead Screwdriver
    3. Fabric (I got mine from Joann's Fabric, 1 yard was more than enough)
    4. Locktite Spray Adhesive
    5. Scissors

Step 1: Remove Door Panel From Car. There are two screws needed to be removed to take off the door panel. One is by the door handle, and the other is in the center of the door. Also use the flathead to get the window switch out, and disconnect it.

Step 2: Remove Door Car From Door Panel. There are eight screws I believe that need to be removed. One is under the foam on the top left in this picture, I just lifted the foam up and unscrewed it.

Step 3: Remove Original Fabric From Door Card. This is self explanatory...just pull it off.

Step 4: Cut Fabric. Cut the fabric about an inch to an inch and a half around the whole door card.

Step 5: Spray the adhesive on the door card:

Step 6: Place the fabric over the door car and pull it tight so there are no creases.

Step 7: Spray around the edges of the backside with the adhesive, and glue the edges down. I started with the longest parts first, then went on to the edges and then the ends.

Step 8: Do the reverse of steps 1-2.

Not necessary, but when I did mine, I took off all of the old glue with Goo-Gone.

I used really thin fabric though, so I was concerened with the texture.

I sort of doubt that "self adhesive" would be any good. But I could be wrong

Re: DIY: Door Card Fabric Wrap

will this work the same way on a BH? Like does the fabric section also come apart from the door panel on the BH as well?

Re: DIY: Door Card Fabric Wrap

No, the fabric (or leather) portion of the BE and BH door cards is not held on with screws, but molded in. If you break the plastic "welds", you might be able to remove them, but I am not sure how you would reattach it.

Re: DIY: Door Card Fabric Wrap

So recently I found this stuff:

    http://wrapmypads.com/

Its a pseudo leather made for changing the color of hockey goalie pads. It is available in a lot of colors. There are other companies that make it. You can find it on Ebay as well. Basically is like vinyl wrap, but thicker. Its got an adhesive back that you could stick to the plastic part of the door card. It does feel like leather, but it can be pricey.

Re: DIY: Door Card Fabric Wrap

buddy of mine actually told me a trick for the BH's. you can separate the plasti-welds used to hold the fabric & plastic sections of the door cards together. Wrap the existing area in new fabric. Then take an Elmers Glue Stick, heat it and re-adhere the plastic welds. Presto!! Wrapped door cards without attempting to tuck and keep glue off the leather.

    Cheers y'all
