Okay, i'm gonna go with the redline lightweight shockproof fluid, I'd heard bad things about the royal purple with WRX owners (doesn't mix well with glass I guess ) so that's settled.
However...how do I flush & fill the 5MT??
TIA

Warm up the car - drive it around a little.
Ramps/Jacks whatever
undo drain plug in tranny
Let old stuff drain out
reinstall drain plug (new washer if you want, but not really necessary)
Look at drain pan and work out how much you drained out.
Pour in via the fill tube - you'll probably need a funnel and a long tube to do this unless you like the smell.
Start car up and let idle, check levels. Top up as needed.
Do this again in 100miles to cycle the old fluid out.
Also - have you considered using Pennzoil Synchromesh? It's excellent stuff.

I haven't considered using the Pennzoil, I've never even heard of it actually
As for the fill tube, I'm guessing it's obvious then? Do I get at it from the engine bay, or underneath?

the smell will kill you man
try uncle scotty's mix....better than running 100% redline....tons of people have tested both and they like the uncle scotty's mix hands down...btw...i'll save you some money also...i spent like 40 bucks for the tranny and rear diff. fluids

the fill tube should be on the left or right of the transmisson very close to the firewall. You may need to remove the intake to access it easier.
Theyre right about it smelling bad. Try getting yourself covered in it while changing the transmission
smells like really hard bitter medicine
okay, cool, thanks guys!
I have a list of stuff to do. I think I'll work on installing the GroupN tranny mounts as well

Oh, and since no one specifically mentioned it, fill tube = dipstick tube.
Seriously, do the research on the Pennzoil Synchromesh.
GM used it to fix their glass trannies a few years back.
