What are you using at the moment? Microfibre towels? The clear coat is a bit funky in patches on the stock gtb spoiler I got so might give these treatments a go before I look at repainting o-o need to do whole car really

Reuben, see if you can snag a used Porter Cable 7424 cheap. It'll make compounding and polishing much easier, and you can wax your cars in 3 minutes like us cool kids

Re: Reubens second child - "Blighter" the 1990 Ti Type-S

Righty, so WOF expires tomorrow, so last night I gave him a wash, took the snowies off, and lent the Beasts wheels to Blighter. The snow tyres, while being bloody BRILLIANT in the snow and ice still, as many can attest to - are not legal. They have about 2mm of tread. While down here where it stays below 10º for 3 months of the year, and is usually -5º's in the mornings and snows semi regularly, they are fantastic even with 2mm, bucket loads more grip than the RE-11's. But thanks to some idiots up north who mix'n'match em, and run them during summer when it rains, conditions where they really are hoplessly and dangerously bad, the law is based around those conditions, thus the 5mm limit on em. Choice! Thanks dorkland! Ah well, lowest denominator and all that... The population of about 10-20 people in QT who actually intentionally run snowies in winter, and put them to good use, vs thousands of derpers on imports who whouldn't know the difference in the north... well the maths works against me unfortunately...

But I digress... Beast tyres went on nicely, but I notice play in the right front. Joy. Took it down this morning after a bit of an interior clean and photo sesh, and sure enough, failed on the play, and also a split boot on the left (Arg, why couldn't it be the right!!!)

Went down and had a beer with sam.m in town for lunch, then off home to fix. 1:15 later, and I had the right tie rod end swapped out, and the left rack boot changed too. Fucking bawss. Wheel alignment at 3 today, then off back to VTNZ around 4ish. Productive day!

New boot. Just a silverline quality part though.

And the offending tie rod end. What the photo doesn't show is that it had quite the rattle.

Then I put beast old 130w Pioneers into the Blighter after work. When I took the door cards off and inspected the old speakers, I was amazed! Have you ever seen such nice condition factory speakers on a 23 year old car! I can only imagine all the previous owners listened to talk back! No wonder the sound was nice and crisp, and without rattle

Ah well, they are only 30w, and the Pioneers are 130, so out they went. Will be getting a nice brand new set of 300w Pioneers for the parcel shelf soon, so I can get a some nice new grilles for em, and a bit of oomph to counter the relative low power of the fronts.

After that, I blasted some The Who, and went for a putter up to Gelnorchy and back. That wee car is so much fun! Gutless as hell, so I played the 'TC-Lock' game, and only used marginal throttle so that the torque converter stayed locked at all times. It worked a treat, used barely over an 8th of a tank to do the 100K round trip, and still had a lot of fun bombing it through the downhill sections!

Re: Reubens second child - "Blighter" the 1990 Ti Type-S

The 250w Pioneer speakers I wanted went on sale today for something silly like $49, which is better than staff price, so just had to pick em up. Installed them in the back of blighter after work, and now he's got some 130w pioneers from beast in the front, and 250w pioneers in the back, slight upgrade form the 30w factory fronts, and terrible broken 55w 90's aftermarket rears. Had to test them out...

135k's later.. Yup, they work just fine.

Also, I adore the bilstiens in that thing, they are so good for open road cruising!

Nah mate, that's full on Gen 1 leather man. 21 years old!!! $300 for the whole interior. For the condition it's in, I'd say that's a fucking score.

Re: Reubens second child - "Blighter" the 1990 Ti Type-S

Trade me, out of a wagon with the same milage as blighter, 170,000 km

And yes they had bloody electric. The first gens were the most packed out subie ever made, they had fucking every feature you could name. Even in 1989, they had what we take for granted now, like central locking and electric windows with electric folding mirrors and cruise control. Electric leather seats, electronically controlled steering assist adjustment ("sporty steering"), full climate control... they took a LOT of features OUT when they went to the BG... only to put them back in for the BH. Sadly the BG, though being my fave, is most certainly the runt of the litter.... First gens even had things like the electric windows working for a minute after the keys were out of the ignition, and a feature called 'self active', where when turned on, would roll the windows up a few mins after turning the car off (that one was an option though)

The most my BG has is elements under the wipers and in the wing mirrors or defrosting. that's about it really, rest is par for the course (in JDM land).

Fucking manual converting as soon as i can afford it... Sadly it needs both new wheels and tyres though, which will be roughly the price of a manual conversion...

Re: Reubens second child - "Blighter" the 1990 Ti Type-S

Had a wee DOBC meet in my drive yesterday, washed both Blighter and Shale (My Girlfriends Impreza).

Later that evening, I took one of the leather inserts off one of the doorcards... It's a right prick of a job! Going to have to be super delecate on the door cards in blighter too, as it's quite easy to fuck the door card while taking the inserts out (they are glued), and I did tear the leather in some places, thankfully all behind were it glues, nothing damaged on the visible side. Then I have to track down so trim glue... It almost looks like a silicone sealer... Anyone know what it could be, or what to use to glue leather inserts to a fiberous door card?

Wouldn't it be the same black sealer used on the spoiler clip in parts on your beast? Kind of like butyl window sealer?

You say that, but the current interior is actually in superb condition, It would be a shame to bin it!!! Trust me though, I have thought of doing the conversion... There's a lot of parts to get for it though... I simply would rather saving the time, money and effort, and putting it towards the engine swap.

There happens to be a BG5A GT TT with a blow motor going for under $600 locally...

It's pretty fucked, not worth saving..... (Don't forget these things are rubbish, you guys just see Twin Turbo and your eyes light up like magpies, but the reality is they are a bloody cunt of a motor, and common as mud here)

    It's manual....

You really hate the twins don't you :P hahaha

Jump on it dude, unless the gearbox is knackered too :/

If you do get it for scrap might even want to get some pieces off of ya :P

Diagnose my rear wiper that doesn't go. 3 or 4 hours of playing in the sun to find it was just a relay was an afternoon VERY well spent I think, I enjoyed every moment of it!!! Was sunny and warm too

These may just be on the agenda... I'm pretty fucking mad keen on them... Auction closes in 2 days... And they are local....

$500 though!!!! But they are littlerally the best condition set I've ever seen... And I've been hunting for these specific wheels for blighter for ages.... And that's next winters snow tyres sorted...
