Its a little under powered but it gets the job done. The gears and exhaust helped a lot though! I can keep up with traffic now at least! Haha

Yeah, the 22RE/R trucks are doggy when lifted with more then stock tires. My 84 still had 4:10 gears with 35" boggers, but had t-case gears and thats all that I did was low speed stuff.

Now my dads 90 4x4 is all stock. I talked him into 31's with Taco wheels and it got REALLY doggy... I had a friend that did 5:29's in his 95 SAS V6 truck, so I got his left over IFS 4:56's for like $200 and made dads truck drive perfect with the 31's... Even corrected the speedo!

    Re: AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

I'm running 33's on 4:88s so its not too bad.

Thanks man. I used paint markers. You can get them from Michael's or hobby bench. I use them on my scale models. Can't think of the brand name off the top of my head but I can find it if you need the name. Their like 3 bucks a peice or like5 for a set of assorted colours. Should hold good but you can take the emblem off and throw on some clear coat for insurance.

Haven't updated in a while. (Been sick...how do u get a cold in 100+ weather?)

Fatgc8 was nice enough to throw the motor in while I was recovering. I really need this car running so decided to wait on the upgraded steering rack. Nothing is plugged in and I still need a radiator. Also my spoiler has not come in yet and its been quite some time since I ordered.

True! Thanks for the optamisim Chris. Although this build slowed down a lot its incouraging!

Not much of an update but the spoiler came in today...just when I was about to hit paypal up about bad seller.

    Still no radiator.

Question...the engine harness is out of a standard legacy...will it still run properly on my auto?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Re: AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

Ok so this past weekend we got the motor all plugged in and ready to go! Gave the motor a crank and though it started it was idling at 3.5 rpms. Didn't have time to dig into it though ...any ideas?? Would it have something to do with the engine harness I mentioned in previous post???

Well anyway I'm glad it started! Still need a radiator....also got the new spoiler on. Its not as clean as I expected but its an obvious upgrade from original.

    PICS

I was thinking about going wingless .....opinions?

Like an idiot I forgot to take pic of the new spoiler installed.....

Wingless does look clean as long as you can cleanly cover up the old mounting holes

I'm planning on lowering in the future spoiler or not. We try to keep it inflated....more important things on the agenda right now ....but I will take care of it as soon as she's running for sure!

Thanks for all the posative feedback guys.

    It's aliiiive!!!!! :smt026

Threw the radiator in and adjusted throttle cables. Good to know the motor is in working condition. It's idling steady but now needs the timing belt done! ugghh. Solve one problem to find another huh? Timing belt kit will be purchased Wed. and installed as soon as it comes in. So far everything else seems to be ok. Hopefully the timing belt will fix current issues and no more problems arise!

edit: BTW if anyone can can let me know how to post a video in here instead of a link that would be great thanks.

    --THIS WEEKEND--

Brand new; Pulley's, Tensioner, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, timing cover and timing cover seals. Installation went great. Motor is running nice and smooth

Removed; radiator, condenser, belts, crank shaft pulley, and timing cover. After removing the Aluminum crank shaft pulley we decided it was to scarred from the Accident (04 STI) to use and ended up throwing the original back on....LAME...but better safe then sorry.

Timing kit installed...ready to be put back together and running right!!

After the install we noticed the motor overheating when left at idle. Switched to a 1.3bar radiator cap and has been running perfect since. Ive been told these motors tend to run fairly hot...and being in AZ I would like to avoid a head gasket failure! I will be ordering a Grim speed thermostat to keep temps a bit lower for insurance. Finally got to drive her home from the garage using a 3-day temporary plate. Now that shes home I can tackle the little things that are BUGGIN!

    --TODAY--

FIRST ON THE LIST was the passenger side window motor! Since I bought the car it has not rolled down...one day of driving with 3 windows down in AZ heat with no ac was enough. I had snatched the window motor at the junkyard a while back and was ready to do the install A.S.A.P. When I removed the door panel (successfully with no broken clips) I noticed the window harness was unplugged good sign! Plugged it in and what do ya know....

Soooo...got an extra working passenger side window motor if anyone needs??lol

Next was the ac buttons. Someone (before purchase) spilled soda all over the buttons and their all sticky and hard to push. :smt012

You can see some of the soda around the edges. I wiped down everything You see and also used Die-electric grease on every harness.

I used rubbing alcohol and Q-tips to get rid of the sugar but stopped when I noticed it was a little harsh on the dashboard materials. Used wd40 instead and it seemed to work, just not as good. I couldn't really get between the buttons very well but it's definitely smoother. I'm hoping over time it will go away...if not then cleaning phase 2 begins :smt071 I noticed a lot of dust built up in the vents to. Took that apart and cleaned it as well.

All clean and put back together. I am still on the look out for the right cup holder...I found that one at the Junkyard but its not only the wrong color but also does not fit properly....but it works for now...

After that came the "DOOR" feature on the dome light that was not working. Removed the little switch in the door jam, gave them both a good wd40 cleaning along with some die-electric grease and boom working again!

With the first three small objectives being a success there just had to be something to ruin the winning streak! The dang moon/sun roof! Stupid thing wont get passed what you see in the photo. I cleaned the rails and lubed the little gears...pushed, pulled, tugged ...nothing. Didn't spend much time on it this time so any tips or ideas for round 2?? At least it doesn't leak and still has a working motor.

It's the driver's side that keeps getting stuck.

With 3 out of 4 minor projects done KT got to get acquainted with her new car and move it from the driveway to the street.lol

I think they make a great pair and reflect the owners well.

Thank you. But idk what your talking about Red on gold rims is sexy man.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time for an update.....not a good one either...

    THE BAD
So now that the motor is in and running I've discovered it needs head gaskets!!! :smt092 Nasty oil all up in my coolant, not to mention the overheating at long idles. I'm kicking myself in the ass for this one...this should have been done BEFORE the install. What can I say except, "We learn from our mistakes". Hopefully this time I can find a damn 04 STI rack to throw in there. I believe 04 is the only year that will fit the legacy. I've been having a LOT of trouble finding one so if anyone knows where to find a used 04 STI rack please please PLEASE let me know. The stock rack is leaking ALL OVER everything and making my beautiful Subaru dirty and stinky... ...I can't have that.

    THE GOOD
First of all I degreased and power washed everything under the hood. Alternator needed replacing so went ahead and swapped it for a re-manufactured Denso from Subaru. Actually came out 50$ cheaper then the stupid store bought alternators to. Also got a REAL battery in there as well. I went with a yellow top Optima. The air filter needed replacing so picked one of those up from Subaru. Oiled filters make me cringe....big "NO NO" in my book I think I finally got rid of that PO interior smell! The dealership sells these Japanese air fresheners that work amazing! Been using them since the first time I ever drove my truck and they are the BEST. They are sold at a lot of Japanese dealerships and a few car wash places(only the nice ones). I forget the brand name but the only flavor I ever buy is squash. A bit pricey but worth every penny. I used some Rain-X headlight and glass re-newer on the headlights and fog lights. I can tell the difference in person but Idk if you can tell in pics...besides I forgot to take some pics after I was done. Maybe I will update pics tomorrow because it actually worked great. It says it takes off scratches on windows so I will do all the windows and take pics after a nice wash. Lastly (I think)...the hood prop holder was broken and was annoying the hell out of me so I switched it with the one from the Corolla. Now it's not moving around and is black vs. yellow.

    THE FUTURE
    Grimmspeed thermostat
    Head gaskets
    Aluminum crank pulley
    04 STI rack
    Paint chrome on grille black?

    PICS

PS. Today is my B-day so someone send me a link that says --!!04 STI RACK FOR SALE!!--

Rebuilt 04 Subaru STI steering rack now in possession!

Grimmspeed 160 degree thermostat and light weight pulley also in possession.

    STILL NEED:
    Gaskets and seals
    04 cross member (I have an 05 CM..but don't think that's gonna work with the 04 rack)
    sway bar
    outer tie rods
    ...better paying job

This car needs to get DONE man I'm tired of seeing it sit in the sun doing nothing day after day.

Yes it STI....I believe it would work (it would just have one extra mounting hole)however I think my cousin is going to use it on his wrx/sti swap. There is a salvage yard with a wrx not far from my house so I'm hoping it has a CM that's not damaged but we shall see. To be honest I need to do a lot more reading before doing the rack swap. I'll be doing it with D (fatgc8) by my side and hes far more experienced then me. I will be posting everything as I have been so whatever needs to be done will be shown here for you to use as reference if it helps.

Nah Subaru made the diamond Im just cutting and buffing

    Thanks man!

I've had the new Wix fuel filter in hand for a while now...finally decided to install it yesterday. Good thing to cause it was long overdue! Fuel was coming out black!

Saturday I will be heading over to Subaru to pick up all the gaskets for the head gasket replacement. More on that when I have everything in hand.

    PICS

    NASTY

    and done...
