Well, the stock DIN bracket should hold a single DIN dash pocket without any modification necessary. I'm assuming that's what you're after. Perhaps a picture would be helpful.

BTW- I'd love to get my hands on your McIntosh unit if you're getting rid of it

Yeah, the McIntosh headunit is the best OEM unit I think. Even the S401 got it. I got my Outback VDC with the McIntosh system being a main reason.

Of course, now I'm trying to modify it to have an AUX IN port and that's something I wish it came with to begin with...

It was really hard to find a universal Single or Dual DIN dash pocket or plate.

Did find an OEM Subaru blank though:

Not the cheapest, but you could request a junkyard find some, or have someone on here sell you some for cheaper, I'm sure.

ooh, found the dash pockets too. Definitely not cheap new, but again, used could be affordable:

    Re: HeadUnit adapter

Note, it would take 2 of any of these 3 options as they're all (by themselves) single DIN and the McIntosh is double DIN.

    edit: 1stSubaruparts.com

You can find these at any of the Subaru parts websites though.

Fred Bean's is where I usually go.

Yeah the Macintosh system is a just a dual DIN headunit. You can get a pocket with the regular single DIN headunit, or a DVD/GPS type dual DIN headunit and it will fill in the hole nicely.

Hmmmm didnt even think of that, but right above the mack head unit is a motorized screen i think was used for the navigation system i guess i can take that out and just put a pocket in there.
