    Cordless Impact a must!

So I got mine a little over a year ago. After the first week, I'm not sure how I went so long without it.

I got a Milwaukee Cordless Impact. It dosent have a ton of TQ, but it does the job I need it to. I use it for body and engine work. Awesome for tear downs since it makes things go fast.

Reasons I like it so much:
-5x's faster for dis-assembly for the job
-Changeable chucks. I have a 1/4, 3/8, 1/4, and bit fittings. (Have even ran on 24mm nuts rather then doing it with a ratchet).
-Extended packs can last up to a couple days of full days work.
-small and compact! I take it with me in my small tool bag every where!
-calluses are not as bad on my fingers from spinning bolts!
-house hold uses! Worked on the washing machine, building the carport, building the outhouse at my cabin, and a number of other neat things!

    What I dont like:
-Every now and then, I brake 10mm bolts on removal, but only if they are rusty and you can tell they are most likely gonna snap before it happens.
-I had to pay money for it... and thats about it...

Truly worth the while! Red85celica has a Dewalt version and thats where I found the use for it. I like my Milwaukee better because of the ability to change bits in about 1 second. His does seem to have more removal TQ, but I think he even likes using mine. haha...

I got mine as a set with a Drill, cordless Sawzall, and a flash light for about $400 I think. At the time, Home Depot was running a deal including a free extended life battery and the whole set was completely worth the money! Didnt think I would care about the light but even that has been useful! The first one sadly got stolen, but I got another off Ebay for a good deal and have not had a problem with it at all.

This is the impact I have, I'll try and get a pic the one I actually use, but this is basicaly it. Totally worth the money!
    http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/factory-rec ... d-wrenches

BY FAR, one of my all time favorite tools I have ever had! I mean one of my top 3 fav's! Shop around and see what you find, but I would keep an eye out on the sets, they are totally worth getting the counter parts that come with it.

I have to agree with you... I have a makita cordless impack and a cordless drill, I use the crap out of them when ever I can. sometimes it gets me in trouble and I brake/strip bolts.

I have a small 1/4" Craftsman C3 and I love it. All the bolts and screws I would strip by hand come off with ease now.

I'm trying to get my wife to get me the Porter Cable drill/driver combo pack (Li-ion, 12v compact) for my birthday. Her father (mechanic) has a dewalt and it makes jobs go much quicker.

yes having one of these is a great thing to have around, I got my Northern Tool 1/2in Cordless for about $100 a couple years ago and it has held up great, the packaging has changed, but that's it, it is currently sold as a Klutch cordless impact now.

    http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200442146.

it is a little on the large side which makes it hard to use on some stuff, but its still great to have around and amazing for any junk yard hunting.

I have one of snap-on's little 7.2 volt 1/4 drivers, like this:
    http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog
Its awesome, it fits anywhere and even though the gun itself does not have alot of power the drive locks so you can just twist the gun with your hand to loosen the bolt then zip it the rest of the way off. It works way better than the little impact drivers that snapon makes.

I have the same Milwaukee pack as the OP. Great tools!

I hesitate to use them around fuel vapors though. I can see some arcing from the brushes on start/stop. Am I just being paranoid?

If you're working in an open air environment, it would take a lot of fuel vapor to cause problems. In a small garage where there's no airflow and you're dropping the gas tank, I'd avoid using it.

That makes sense. Last time it came up I was working in the car with the fuel pump access plate off. There's a chance I might have regretted using it.

    Re: Cordless Impact a must!

Its the same myth as using a cell phone when at a gas station.

I have used it with open fuel next to it. Now I'm not saying to soak it but use common sense.

You use a cell phone at gas stations too?

Hahaha probably nothing will happen, but I used a plain old screwdriver that day. Still didn't take very long.

I filled up on gas last night without even turning the car off. Not too worried. Honestly what's the risk? Even if something caught fire it wouldn't go up into the nozzle and it's not going into your gas tank due to lack of oxygen within. It's an open area and you're not spraying fuel all over the ground and car.

I was also on my cell at the same time.

Funny thing is a few weeks ago I was getting gas and noticed the woman getting gas on the other side of the terminal left her engine running and there was a cop parked right behind her that was chatting with her while she filled up. I was surprised he didn't say anything about it but it was obvious they knew each other.
