    Muse's Project LOLwagon: GONE :( 1-30-14

The name for my car comes from the first text conversation I had with a friend:
Me: Dude, I just traded my truck for a Subaru!
    Ben: I am jealous, here...
    Me: It's a '95 Legacy wagon!
    Ben: LOL, Wagon...

Anyhow, here it is in all it's glory: (sorry for the cellphone-itis)

I've already modified the grille to have a slightly non-stock look:

Wasn't that hard, I actually did the disassembly with a screwdriver and a hammer. The emblem is only glued on in the picture, but I've used 3M foam tape since then.

    Future plans:
    Interior:
-Velcro straps to secure folding barricade and collapsible traffic cones. (I am a Volunteer Fire Policeman)
    -WRX or STi seats
    -Drivers' side 5-point harness
-Replace misssing interior trim (back hatch, center console lid, radio face plate, cup holder)

    Exterior:
-Carbon-fiber or Carbon Kevlar hood. (hard to find, I'm sure, but I've seen them a few times.)
    -GT bumper
    -Black out head/taillights
    -Black mesh for grille
-Color-match emblem to paint of car
    -Australian Liberty badge
-Blue LED strobes behind grille and in rear window
-STi BBS wheels (I'll go with the grey or silver ones, but if I find them in gold, I'll probably have them repainted to a bronze)

    Performance:
-Neon coil pack (I have one soon to be free when I put the Legacy on the road, and take my Neon off)
    -Replace valve cover gaskets
    -Paint intake manifold gunmetal grey
-some kind of cat-back or even axle-back exhaust. (I have a decent shop in the area, so I'll probably just have them fabricate an axle-back for now. I'll go to something more performance oriented in the future, but for now, I just want it to sound good.)
-lowering setup. Not sure what to do there, but, hey... that's why I joined, right?
    -5MT swap

    Re: Muse's Project LOLwagon

Ooooookaaaay!!!! The Neon finally scared me enough that I went to the DMV on Saturday, and just barely got the plates switched over to the Subaru before they closed. I've put about 60 miles on it in the last day, and I must say, it's a real treasure. a beaten, battered, scarred treasure, but a treasure, nonetheless.

    Problem spots:
-When turning a corner and accelerating, it seems to shudder a little until I straighten the wheels.
-under hard acceleration, there is a really loud, peircing whistle at around 3500-4000 RPM, growing louder and higher in pitch until I let up. It also occurs in neutral, if I rev hard, but if I rev gently, it hardly happens, and then only around 5500 RPM.

    Any advice?

Okay, I put the fuse in to make it FWD only and it fixed the shuddering around a corner. I'm not sure if it's the center diff that's having a problem, or just that my tires are mismatched as hell, but that fixed it.

As for the whistle, I've figured out that it's a pinhole leak in the exhaust, so I just turn the radio up. it'll get fixed whenever I buy a cat-back.

You have torque bind in the transmission. Drain the ATF, refill and add a bottle of LubeGard ATF Protectant. With a bit of luck, you'll be able to save the transfer clutch packs in the trans.

Thanks for the advice, Huffer. I talk a good game, but I'm really a noob when it comes to mechanical stuff with my car, but it seems to me like that kind of problem would manifest in AWD or FWD... still, can't hurt to try it, right? I'll change out the filter while I'm at it, too.

    Re: Muse's Project LOLwagon

No need to drop the pan to change the filter... you can but it's not necessary.

The FWD fuse disengages the rear clutch packs so it's freewheeling and not directing torque back there.

    Re: Muse's Project LOLwagon

Well, after wrecking it last Saturday, My car has been... kinda put back together. the rear left tire is suffering from serious toe-in, and wearing really fast. It makes me sad to say that a mere 3 months after getting my Subaru, I'm going to have to bid her farewell. I'm keeping an eye out for another 2nd-gen wagon, but it looks like the immediate replacement will be a 1988 Volvo 240 sedan. The upside of this is that the Volvo is the fairly rare 5-speed manual transmission. If I buy it, I may turn it into the project car after I find another Subaru.

...Because, make no mistake... I WILL find one.

... And I have been kinda lusting after this Volvo for a while. it's got no rust, a new head gasket, new shocks, a new fuel pump and various other things that probably cost the guy more than what he's selling it to me for. $1500 for this car is a steal. He knows how bad I need this car, and he's really pulling my ass out of the fire with this.

... or not... Seems that he's worked some kind of magic on the L. the toe-in is not fixed, but it's been reduced to a safe, only barely detrimental level of wear.

    Re: Muse's Project LOLwagon

Okay, so, update: My radiator blew out the other day. I've been told that this is because when I replaced the original with the radiator from a '93 BC sedan, I failed to put the rubber mount for one of the lower pegs in the right place, and I wore a hole in the bottom. Oh, joy. Well, since I have a second BK now, I swapped the radiator from that one in, and it's running great. I also stole the seat from that one to replace the thrashed-out one that Grace came to me with. Now my back doesn't hurt! yaay!

But, my plans have changed for this car. If I do anything to modify it, it will be far and away in the future, and will probably involve gaining height, not loosing it. That's right. I'm-a-gonna lift it. maybe. First things first, I'm going to make my white Brighton the project car.

I'm looking at getting an Outback bumper and fog lights for Grace for $80. Not only will it look ballin', but it'll help me see in the snow. Because Domino's makes us deliver in the snow. And this car is officially the best snow car, bar none at my store. So I'm always gonna be called in to drive if it's snowing.

Not that I mind terribly. Snow = fun.

Anyhow, is that a reasonable price, assuming it's in good shape?

That price seems reasonable to me. You'll need the bumper beam beam as well.

You can't even buy an outback foglight for $80 from the dealer, so yes, I'd say so.
As long as you get the bumper beam so you can mount the foglights though.

So, She's still on the road, getting me from A to B and back, and making me money at work.

Took this picture while scouting for the Eastern CT Local-ish meet, and I really like it. Makes her look almost like a good car again.

That sucks! That should polish right out lol

Buy a whole door at picknpull if there's one in your area. Should be $50 for the whole thing. Did you get insurance money for it or was it hit and run?

It was roughly my fault. She was speeding but I turned in front of her (thought I had more room to make it than I did.) Neither of us got a ticket, but my insurance ended up paying. Anyhow, everything still works on the door and the whole rest of the car is falling apart around my ears, so I don't really care about the door. It's all gonna obtain partscar status soon.

Rust is a way of life here. Kinda like meth.

Hey, I never said it was a GOOD way of life.

So, I just got a SD card reader, and decided to have fun with my camera now that I can dump stuff onto my computer quickly.

I can make my car look good. See?

    Yeah no problem!

If it makes you feel better, my car does have rust and dents, it's just most of it is small and hard to see!
