Could this be?? A seemiingly painless powered subwoofer??

so my OEM underseat sub has been blow for a while. I took it apart and the cone is torn, but thats irrelavant....

My real question is that on Crutchfield, this link below is listed as a stock system upgrade. Supposedly, you can plug it directly into the OEM headunit and have a subwoofer without all the aftermarket wire splicing and running large gauge wire everywhere.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_975PP7E/He ... erview-tab

Here is a picture of how they portray it:

I need to mention Im not looking to blow my windows with some massive subs or anything like that. I would just like that supplemental bass to support some spirited music session in my car.

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions on this. Or even if you had any past experience with the company.

    Thank you in advance

Edit: This would also be nice because it could be easily removed if I need space.

Well, you have to buy the processor:

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_975PP50DSP ... l?tp=49859

    Which is really expensive.

I'd recommend the Infinity basslink instead - similar price, size, and power (I like mine a lot).

Damn....I thought it was included! Oh well..... Did you have to get an aftermarket headunit though for the basslink unit??

I do, but it can use line-in inputs from the stock stereo's speaker wire. It will require a bit of splicing/tapping.

if your looking for a under the seat type sub alot of people recommend this

same way you need to wire it in with high inputs

Why? You said you had a stock sub. Why not just use the wiring from under the seat? Splicing wiring isn't hard.

You're not going to find anything that doesn't either require a bit of work or a professional install besides the Subaru sub. If you don't want to do anything, just ebay another one of the Subaru ones.

I could only find the ones from wrx's and forresters and they have a different setup of wires in the same plug. There is a an extra pin that doesnt allow it it work. I am going to check ebay regularly for an oem one though

I am unfamiliar with the stock sub woofers. Why can't you just replace the sub instead of the whole box? If it's a slim sub, I know there are a few companies that make those. Blaupunkt makes some, but are a bit pricey.

Yeah...truck subs should work cause they're designed to fit between the seat and the back of the cab. there's only 2 wires that go to the actual sub. if you're trying not to install a big system drive up here and I'll install one for you but just replacing the sub with a slim one of the same diameter should only take 2 spliced wires

Re: Could this be?? A seemiingly painless powered subwoofer?

Ive thought about that route but never really looked into it all too much. The only "bump" I see with that route would probably be soldering and electrical connections........I always seem to mess up electrical stuff when I work on it.

And GTDrifter, that would be cool if you I could have you do that but you are a little far for something like that, but thank you for the offer

Doesn't look too bad. I'm using the powered Flytrap FLI 10" in the back of my wagon, purchased from SonicElectronics for about $100. I'm happy with it.
