    1977 BMW R75/7

    So I've been bikeless since 2006 when I moved back to Washington and got with my exwife. Her deal was, if you get a bike, *I* get a bike. And after seeing her drive cars (she has a need for speed and is a not particularly careful driver), I had a feeling that she'd be dead within a year. So no bike for me since I didn't want her dead, lol.

    I know a guy up here who's owned a 2000 RS since new, and when he bought it he started driving his bike less and less. Anyways the RS needs all the usual things all at once. So he brought up that he'd give me the bike in exchange for the labor. So I'm going to be replacing all the front end moving parts, water pump, idlers, timing belt, all the seals, clutch job, etc. With him buying all the parts.

    Bike needs some work - front suspension is shot, front rotor has heat cracks in it, carbs need rebuilding, heads may need a valve job, needs tires and a new seat.
    This is going to be my winter project since my SS is now good and reliable enough to DD.

    Basically it is a 750cc air cooled Boxer-Twin, kind of like half of a beetle motor. Has the optional 7 gallon tank, so at ~50mpg it's going to go forever. Here's some information on the bike:

    Planned upgrades? Many parts will bolt on from other newer air-cooled R series BMW's.
    -twin disc brembo fronts with handle bar mounted master cylinder
    -upgraded front forks as it's currently shot. Rear has sweet aftermarket Koni's
    -new tires to replace the dryrotted ones
    -microprocesser controlled ignition
    -some sort of saddlebags that don't look too cheesy
    -all sorts of "GDM" appearance mods.
    -Upgraded alternator (Motorrad Electric, or Omega charging system?) Thanks Dodik!

    There are all kinds of performance mods for these old bikes such as 4 valve heads, higher compression pistons, twin spark setup, spicy cams, etc etc.
    My goal for the bike really is to have a comfortable cruiser that I built with my own hands, not a pocket rocket. But never say never.

    congrats on new bike, i've worked a bit on one couple month ago. One thing to remember carry some extra oil with you, and monitor your charging system maybe even upgrade RR, from what limited knowledge i have those are low revving motors and around town cruising doesnt really charge your battery that well.
    98 GT -- Intro to Subaru. Cooked HG, dead suspension, and lots of ricer mods.
    02 Outback H6 -- No more HG issues, but ate two 4eats.
    09 Subaru Tribeca -- slow and ....um fat, definitely fat.
    13 E350 S212 -- No more Subaru!! Why does that make me happy?

    ^^ That's a good point - I've read about the charging issues. I'll add an upgraded setup to the list.
