I've owned two sets and currently am running them with a full exhaust. It sounds like a demon who found out his stock in marshmallows just dropped a dozen points right after his broker suggested a heavy investment and he's out for blood.

    Re: Headers

Pretty much will fit any non turbo EJ series motor that has dual port heads up to around 08. I believe they started changing things before the FB engine conversion. I know the '10 Legacy has an EJ motor but different heads.

Because of a lack of information about earlier models, most likely.

90-95 EJ22s are dual port. 96ish-01 EJ22s are single port.
    All EJ25s are dual port.

The reason I say 96ish is because 96 was a hybrid year for heads, so some may have dual port heads, some don't. It's a very simple matter of looking under the engine, it's very obvious.

    Re: Headers

Also dont let it be forgotten that there is a difference in exhaust ports between phase 1 and phase 2 2.5's regardless of dohc or sohc.

But there's no applicable difference in the context of headers.

Yes there is. Especially if you're going the cheaper route. The patterns are slightly difference. Try and put phase 2 headers on a phase 1 engine or vice versa.

    Ask me how I know

How do you know? and do u have pictures? I've run the same headers from P1 to P2 and vise versa. even the Chinese headers don't discriminate between phases.

I think you've just run into the typical situation most of us have: quality control is junk. I don't really believe there's any difference in the exhaust ports themselves, or the J-pipe connection.

And I've put the same headers that were on an EJ25D onto my EJ22E and then they went on an EJ251. All fit fine.

    Re: Headers

Interesting. Back in the day when borla made real borla headers (not the cheap bullshit ones they are trying to pass off now) I purchased a set that didnt fit. They informed me that I had purchased a set designed for the phase 1 engine. It had a shallower depth (didnt clear the steering rack external lines) and the front holes were off about 5/16 of an inch on either side. I bought another p2 set and sure enough the collector was deeper and the bolt holes were different.

I dont have any pictures, this was years ago.

I also ran into this issue about a year ago with both speedy racer and dna motoring uel headers.

Maybe they were all just shitty to begin with

    Re: Headers

There's a fabricator on USMB who is now making UEL headers for both single and dual port EJs.

Quality looks outstanding. Thought I might drop this in here.

I am thinking of buying a header. I looked at the DNA site and all I see are for imprezas. Am I wrong thinking they are the same?

I just added these headers to my BE today actually. Rest of the exhaust is still stock until next week. Just the headers alone u can hear a very small growl u kinda have to listen for it. But I had these on my BK as well and sounded awesome. I love every minute of it.
