Re: Petro's 2002 Forester S Premium Sport- July 25- Lightbar

    Thanks man

I went out this morning and modified they way I mounted it. Now I feel confident it wont fall down while im driving
I also re-positioned the plate with new mounts I made
And I moved the lights under the bar for fun
I just wish I painted it before I did all this work putting it on the car

    Re: Petro's 2002 Forester S Premium Sport- July 27-Lightbar*

The current dip is with rattle cans but the next will be with a gun. I already have it

    Maybe purple next summer?
but I really want to let the red fade, for some reason I always liked the look of old cars with faded red paint

I think I ended up buying 1 more can of red and 2 black on top of whats in the pics
and after several tests I concluded the different cans were the exact same red when sprayed

    Re: Petro's 2002 Forester S Premium Sport- July 27-Lightbar*

This pic is from the day I went to test drive the foz. after plating it but before the drive home. when I got home the emblem fell off when I poked it lol
The owner was moving that day and wasn't around so he left the keys in it and said call if him if I want to buy it after my test drive
We drove it for 20ish minutes but I knew right away it was the one.
I had recently test driven a dozen subies in my search for our second car and this one most definatly drove the best. literally half those cars had the CEL come on during the test drive
and a couple of the people were like oh ya... that... but I believed a couple of them when they said it had never done it before that test drive. I believe they just never looked till I pointed it out to them

There was a couple BD's a couple BK's a couple imprezas and couple foresters. I put out a big net and didn't care what I caught
about half 5spd's and half auto's. the test drives gave me a great feel for how the different chassis of the late 90's felt
most were 2.5's but there was a 2.2l legacy wagon, a 2.2 impreza brighton and a super rare '96 2.5L GT BD with that 1 off year with 155hp engine *I think

I see 5spd's come up for sale that I want all the time and I'd trade the foz for the right one but I think it's too customized now to get top dollar for it + I just want to keep it and get a 3rd car that's 5spd

So I wanted to take the Foz out yesterday but noooo I took the Legacy
I ended up buying something and didn't even think about it fitting in the car
Of course it didn't and I didn't have my roof racks with me

FORESTERROR to the rescue. 2 ratchet straps and 2 minutes and I was on my happy way

I just noticed the dash has no shifter tree
I thought almost every automatic had a dash shifter indicator somewhere...weird

This pic is from when I emptied the tank and started filling with 89 instead of 87
I only gas up once every 30-40 days so the extra 5$ is nothing
I'm currently at around 227,550 km

    Re: Petro's 2002 Forester S Premium Sport- July 27-Lightbar*

Did some touch ups on the roof today
When I did the roof last September I let the dip dry all the way before trying to peel the tape off
The tape wanted to bring the dip off with it around the roof rails
I gently used a razor to trim the tape off but the razor was super dull and ripped alot instead of slicing

the ripped dip led to peeling and rolling down (not by more than 1mm or 2)
So I trimmed properly and resealed around the roof rails since that was the only affected area

I also found this pic online of an old 98-00 foz with the seats down and I was pretty sure mine were different
the 01-02 have the sides fold down for a little bit more room as you can see

    Re: Petro's 2002 Plasti Dipped Forester S Premium Sport-Aug.

Well 360 after buying the Foz I get my first CEL
This Saturday is the 1 year mark

I got a text from my wife while I was at work
It was a pic of the CEL and she said "sad light" lol

She was on her short drive home and said it drove normal

I got to use my OBD2 reader on one of my cars for the first time in almost 3 years (plenty of use for friends in that time)
    Suprized to see 3 codes
    my scanner read:
P0456- Evaporative emission system leak detected (very small leak)
P0442- Evaporative emission system leak detected (small leak)
P0456- Evaporative emission system leak detected (very small leak)

I'm guessing it has come on before and my wife just didn't notice
why else would the same code be stored twice like that?

and its funny that it said (very small leak) like that in brackets on my scanner
I don't know why but that makes me feel better

I'm not concerned and don't plan on fixing anything for this.
I'll clear evap codes till the end of time

Hell, check if the gas cap is on tight enough. Could be that small of a thing.

    Re: Petro's 2002 Plasti Dipped Forester S Premium Sport-Sept

those codes are terrible, thats what i had on my old car, a small evap leak. Its hard to track down because it can be basically anything in the evap system.. You may have to get a smoke test done to figure out where the leak is coming from. First things first replace gas cap. When filling your tank does the pump shut off prematurely? Oh ya and the code i had on my car, i would clear it and it would disappear for over 300km (about a week) then pop up again, or would pop up 50km after i cleared it.

    Re: Petro's 2002 Plasti Dipped Forester S Premium Sport-Sept

Ya I had the same issues on my first LGT
The gas does shut off prematurely when filling but I was used to that from my old car so Its not that annoying...

I guess i'll replace the gas cap and go from there
Im still not really that concerned so I'm not rushing out to buy one

I checked the oil last weekend and it was full and not that dark
it has less than 4000km on it but it hasn't been changed in 1 year...
I REALLY need to do that very soon

    Re: Petro's 2002 Plasti Dipped Forester S Premium Sport-Sept

Thanks a lot for the link. It was a good read and gave me a good place to start.

Well 1 year ago today I bought and drove the foz home with 224,450km on it. I just checked and it has 227,776km.
That's daily driving it 6 days a week lol

For her birthday I bought some lithium grease to hopefully hide some intermittent squeeks
and dipped the front winter rims for a uniform look.
I'll put them on soon since I'm still rocking my dead summers with the screw in them.

Thanks I cant wait to mount them. Maybe if I have time this weekend

I looked under the backside the other day.
I'm getting an intermittent squeak from the rear when reversing over a bump/uneven ground
I bought some grease thinking the least I could do is grease my rear swaybar bushings
I haven't done it yet but when I looked under I saw the swaybar itself looks like its about to crumble in half

and looking at my picture, is that my rear diff leaking/weaping?

Re: Petro's 2002 Plasti Dipped Forester S Premium Sport- Sep

So for the first time in a month I put on covered toe shoes (crushed my toes dropping a weight on them at work)
I was able to get my steal toes on and hobble out to the garage to change the Foz's shoes

It looks awesome with all 4 rims red now. Pics soon

also sprayed some grease on my sway bar endlinks in hopes of curing a stupid intermittent squeak

So I spotted a crazy good deal for super rare rims on my local Subaru forum

They are similar to LGT snowflake rims but they are JDM SF forester rims. 16"x6.5" 48 offset
They were never available in the USA, and only sold as an option on 2002 Forester S Sport models
Since the forester had L, S, S limited and S Sport trim levels there are not many of these in existence and again only available for 1 year, 2002

I already have a set of these sweet sweet rims but another set, with good condition name brand winter tires for $80!?

I could not let anyone else beat me to them.
All center caps there, all tires even wear and good tread left, and no bends cracks or funny stuff with the rims

Only thing is the car they came off had 340 000km so they have seen alot of use. No curb rash, just wear and tear

I told the seller I didnt want to travel far and he said for the $80 he'd deliver them! Done. I met him 5 min from home at a major intersection to make it easier for him to find me

With the savings from getting them so cheap I could afford to have them sandblasted and Powder coated and still they would be worth more $ then I have into them. My local club has done a group buy sandblast/powder coating session the last 2 summers so if it comes up again for a good price i might try and get these done in gold.

If not i'll either sand and try painting them gold myself, or just clean the surfaces and plasti dip them for super cheap
hell I could just rock them as is cause they arent THAT bad

The add mentions a tire needs to be re-seated on its rim, small leak where the rubber meets the alloy (just like 1 of my tires last summer)
Thats fine because i kinda want to pop a tire off the rim and weigh one of the rims because that info just doesn't exist due to the rarity of the rims.
I could un mount the tires and sell just those for more then I paid for the rims+tires
I dont even need these, I have winter and summer rims and tires for both my subies
But I'll keep them for at least a couple years and hopefully get a 5spd beater subaru to use them on (hopefully a BD)

Thanks. I totally have to build a shed in my backyard this summer for off season rim storage

the only reason I was able to get them was the seller never put them on kijiji
They would have been gone so fast. But like you said the forum is totally dead so not many even saw the FS add

I don't really post on there anymore, no one responds and all anyone owns is new WRX's and STi's. no legacy love
I've been on there since 2006 so it's hard to stop going there out of habit

I got the forester E-tested on Sunday
No wait at oil changers and within 5 minutes I was driving home with a pass
Less then 2 blocks after leaving the facility on my way home my emissions related CEL came on lol
That would have resulted in a fail but I had my OBD2 scanner to clear codes if I got them before the test...
Got home, cleared them and on with life I go.

Did you clear the codes then go for the test? Because that would also result into a fail all they look at is if sensors are ready or not...on your obd scanner there should be a menu called I/m...they only look at those monitors if they are "ready".. so if you clear codes/reset the edu ..all the monitors go into "not ready".. to get them "ready" you have to do some driving listed on mto site...I did a lot of reading on this lol

No, I clear the codes when I get them and Hadn't gotten a code since November or December
If I had to clear them before the test I would have like you said, taken it for a drive around the area until it was all ready

My OBD2 scanner has 3 separate lights under the screen, red(CEL is on, NOT READY!), yellow (no CEL but not ready), and green (no CEL all systems ready)
So I could tell when I got there that my car was ready and should pass

My scanner was regular $200 at CT
I got it on sale for $99 and used over $80 in CT money at the time so It didn't cost me much at all
+ I've used it on so many friends cars and mine that it has been worth every single penny

I have no idea where I got the idea but I was under the impression that the winter tires I got when I bought the Forester were really M+S tires
I started thinking that over this past winter and figured I would just run them all winter, then leave them on for the summer and not bother changing my rims and tires this spring since last years summers are old, cracked, worn and theres a nail in the sidewall.

I figures the M+S (mud and snow) must be fine for the summer but I recently got down and actually looked and they are Toyo observe GO-2 plus tires, which are winter specific tires.

So I'm going to keep my eyes out for local online classifieds for forester all season or summer tires
I'm hoping to score them for $200 or less with or without rims cause I really dont need another set of rims i'd have to store

The Toyo observe GO-2 plus currently on the car are still so beefy with tread I'm not worried about wearing them down too much this summer, Im just not sure they will give me the proper grip needed for a baby hauler as the forester has become the #1 car we transport my son in.

Last weekend I duct taped the weather strips under all 4 doors as the rubber had ripped where the clips keep them held to the bottom of the doors. I had been re clipping them for a year now and figured the duct tape should keep them held in place pretty well and I hated every time I looked at the car and could see the black weather strips hanging out from under the closed doors.

Fit a full size 8ft couch in the SF today
Thought I was going to have to ask my buddy with a truck to help me move it but I figured I would try and move it myself and I'm glad I did. It fit no problem. Just used 1 ratchet strap to secure it in place.
Thankfully this couch has removable legs. If it didn't this would not have worked

I was planning on strapping it to the roof but that would have been crazy lol
