I did a fair amount of searching and I couldn't really get the answer I was looking for. It's finally time to change/upgrade my brakes. My car is a 2005 Legacy 2.5GT. I was hoping to get some suggestions from people on their set ups, especially if they have a 4th gen. My current needs are aggressive daily to occational (maybe twice a summer) autocross. From what I've gather on others suggestions... I was thinking of:
Upgraded idea...
- DBA 4000 T3 Rotors (Sloted)
- EBC RedStuff Pads (ceramics)
Normal/slight upgrade...
- OEM Rotors (plain vented)
- EBC GreenStuff Pads (Semi-metallic)
I'm not opposed to going back to OEM rotors and an upgraded pad, I'm just looking for data from what people are using. There are several threads out there, but many are old and LOADED with trolling/flaming. Thank you in advance for any information and suggestions.
**********UPDATE with DATA:**********
Well I've been going round and round on this one, and I think I have it sorted out. I decided on the DBA 4000 T3 rotors long ago. The trouble was with the pads. Data on pads is like pulling teeth!! So, I did a little home testing of the current setup (factory rotors, and pads, with at least 25000 miles on them, previous owner did them who knows how long ago), and some data I found online. So here is the data:
Short Conclusions: Rears run almost exactly 20% cooler than the fronts (hooray for brake bias), and I'm going with Carbotech 1521 Bobcat pads (though I have no posted data on them). Talked to the guys at Oakos Auto and he kinda set me straight on the pads.
Current Setup testing:
- Conditions: Temp 46*F, Rained earlier, roads wet (<1/8" water).
- Equipment: Craftsman IR Thermometer (Measured temp on each rotor in three places)
- Car: 2005 2.5GT, with factory rotors and pads (at least 25000 miles on them, in good shape) stock wheel size running RE11A.
Data:
Under normal braking from 45-0, normal pressure on the peddle (3 Stops averaged, 120 seconds between tests)
- Fronts: 156*F
- Rears: 121*F
Running 4 sides of a "cloverleaf" onramp (the 270* onramps) (2 tests, 70-25 four times per test, 180 seconds between tests)
- Fronts: 302*F
- Rears: 230*F
Panic Stop, xxx-0 (undisclosed top speed... but take a guess, 2 tests, 180 seconds between tests, tested to ABS activation)
- Fronts: 309*F
- Rears: 227*F
