    Brake Pads

I'm looking for your preferences on brake pads. The pads I currently have (which are pretty new, with good rotors front and back) just don't grip as much as I like. They definitely stop me, but I'll have to mash the pedal down quite a bit to stop very hard. So my question is, do any of you have a pad you could recommend? Or even an idea as to how I can make my brake pedal a bit more stiff?

I'm running MaxBrakes.com carbon metallic pads and I like them a lot.
Here's a little review of the brakes I bought.

Also here is some great info on brakes in general.

I felt the same way with my stock brake pads. About a week and a half ago I got StopTech Street Performance pads and then resurfaced my stock rotors. I've only had them for a short period of time so I can't say anything long term but I really like them so far. They feel somewhat similar to the stock pads where you can modulate them a lot, but they bite a lot harder than the stock pads. My biggest issue with the stock pads was the lack of bite and so the StopTechs fixed that problem with me, stopping distance has greatly reduced and I feel comfortable that if I have to panic stop the new pads will stop me in time.

I also replaced the brake fluid and bled the lines too so that might help. The brakes don't have that mushy feel for me anymore. But I'm still planning on getting stainless steel brake lines and a brake master cylinder brace to completely firm up my brakes. You might try doing all of these things if you want even better stopping and brake pedal feel.

I didn't notice any change in feel going with Hawk HPS pads (would have gotten the stoptech pads, but they were out of stock everywhere) but they definitely do brake nicely when you stomp the pedal and they're amazing when they get warm. Good for twisty roads and really don't have much in the way of compromise - the brake dust isn't even that bad.

Thanks for the replies. I'd already heard good things about the stoptech pads, so I'm glad you guys were able to confirm that for me. As far as brake fluids go, I just had mine bled and replaced when I had the brakes done, since the master cylinder was pretty low when I bought the car. Will ss brake lines really help? I'd thought about upgrading to them, but my end goal with this car is a wrx swap so obviously I'll be upgrading to bigger brakes at some point later, and I'd hate to spend too much money on something I'd be replacing soon anyways.

SS lines are just more of a pedal feel thing, as far as I know they don't really help with performance. Depending on what calipers you go to I think they can still transfer over, so I don't think you'll have to get new lines if you swap brakes. I'm not for sure though, so don't quote me on that.

I think you'll be happy with StopTechs, they have a pretty good initial bite so when you get on the brakes you actually feel like you're being slowed down. They do dust quite a bit though.
