how about SOHC EJ25 heads w/ upgraded cams on your EJ22, that would cost a lot less.

Would that work on a EJ20 engine upgraded SOHC EJ25 head w upgraded cams?

I am deciding to build up the EJ25, so far I am looking into TWE Equal Length headers, TWE Stage 2 SOHC Cams and TWE Pistons. I am also going to replace all the gaskets while i have the engine out and im going to bore and extrude hone the engine as well. If you guys can give me opinions as well that i can use to incorporate into my EJ25 Build up. I am going to try and shoot for 200+WHP N/A of course(Trying something other than a Turbo swap)
Look up Patrick Olsen over on NASIOC - he has a really nicely built-up NA EJ25 on his Legacy that puts out a respectable amount of power. Might want to add an S-AFC on that list or something - I hear tuning the fuel delivery can get quite a few horsepower.

I hope you mean you're just going to extrude hone the intake manifold, right? That's been reported to be the single biggest improvement by many rally teams, who've had it done. A pnp job on the heads doesnt do much, unfortunately, so I wouldn't waste your $1k. New heads, though, will be a better upgrade.
For a higher CR, get a thinner HG, since you're starting from the ground up, and don't skimp on your cams. Have them reground, to your specs, so you know what you're dealing with. Try to cater to YOUR powerband. (or what you expect)
I'm glad to see someone still wants to do an NA these days. Everyone and their uncle has to have something turbo, and IMO, it's just cheating to go fast. ..but I'm old fashioned.
Good luck, I can't wait to see the end result!

been there done that....dont bother......save yourself some trouble and just build up the 22.....i might possibly have some heads, cams, pistons, and rods i could cut you a mean deal on....well 3 rods....the 4th is lodged in my old block lol..... i found that the 22 actually made more top end tourque under boost than a 25 for some reason (12.7lbs)......nevertheless either engine will make a great project.....i personally just wouldnt go from the 22 to the 25 just for the sake of HP....theres alot of power locked away in even the stock 2.2...ive ive heard of one doing 275 at the flywheel all motor!

I dont hate you because your car is gay...i hate you because you drive a honda!
I do have respect for people going the N/A route. And 200whp for an N/A motor is nothing to sneer at. You're looking at around 270hp at the crank....you're up in G35, 350Z territory. well beyond a stock WRX too. Sorry, not enough to flog an Evo though.....they may have 6 more hp, but they're like rockets, although not very linear. Its either on or its off.
Thats what I do like about N/A, the form of power delivery. Strong & smooth all the way up the tach.
Sure, turbo may be 'cheating' but I've kept my eyes on my own paper till now....I wanna have some fun!
Good luck and keep us informed.

If everything goes accordingly , september is the month it will be finished like mid month. I'll prob be at least or around 165whp.
I am also looking to go the NA route. Was looking at Cobb, anyone ever dealt with them? Or is there something better out there... I have a 2002 GT sedan. In the end I want to have about 250hp at the crank. Does this sound reasonable or impossible? For starters, I was looking at an ECU upgrade, or thowing a piggyback on the stock ECU. Is there anyone that has any experience with this?
Thanx,

I'm personally going for a majority of TWE parts and most likely going to go the standalone engine mang. route.
I'll keep you guys updated, have headers on the way and gonna modify them
TWE is an excellent place to start!!

swap should be complete and in no later than mid-late sept.
Ive dealt with cobb before, they make really good stuff. I have never been unhappy with any cobb item I have installed or ran (although Ive never installed or run anything from them on one of my own cars)
Well other than their STS, but that was because we adjusted it wrong and the throw was so short it was barely possible to get in gear/know what gear you were in. As I said, that was us, not the shifter, we lengthened the throw and it works like a charm now
