First, I'll tell you to look through any of the threads in this section you are posting in, I and gator GT have gone over this topic a thousand times. Then you are more than welcome to ask me any questions you have.

I'm going to make an engine swap sticky soon. This is getting out of hand.

What are you looking for? More power? Or just a cheap engine swap? A Subaru mechanic told me if you just need a new engine you can get slightly-used naturally-aspirated Subaru engines from Japan for real cheap (like $800).

Listen man I'm not trying to be a dick. Ask anyone here, I am on most occations extremely helpful, and if you were looking, you'd notice I took the time immediately after I responded to you to get a start on that sticky thread

Your two main options are turbo or non turbo. I'm guessing you are implying by bulletproof that you want to go turbo, if not correct me. You're most reliable option is definitely USDM wrx (EJ20t). Easy to get parts for, and has tons of mods available to reinforce anything you desire. There is a more bulletproof block than that, the EJ22t, which came out of the first generation legacy turbos. However, a pretty extensive amount of work is required to get the heads to flow as well and put the whole setup together, as well as the simple fact that these engines havent been produced since 94, they are all pretty high mileage at this point.

Be prepared to do a lot of wiring. Going to a turbo engine is pretty complicated. If you want to go N/A, there are other people on here who know more about that than I do.

How much cash are you talking here?
The quality of the swap is directly dependent on how much cash you have. If you have a spare car to run around in while your car is off the road, you could have a top-quality swap with no errors, everything functioning correctly.

It's all about the benjamins, and the hookups.

oh, well, when you said engine swap, I pretty much was thinking of engine, upgrades, tranny, diffs, suspension, brakes, and cosmetics (ie: hood to accomodate Intercooler).

Mark was right, if your going to swap motors you might as well swap the other stuff at the same time. Why would you swap the motor, then pull it back out to rebuild the internals? It should be one project.

If you have 20k to throw down I can write you up a wicked motor setup. However, I wouldn't reccomend doing a cheap motor swap and then trying to upgrade it to that point. Wait till you have the money in hand. Then, PM me and I can put you in contact with someone who you can get an entire STi drivetrain from, a place to get the performance parts from, and a shop to get the work done at.

Also, you won't find a subaru transmission that will hold up to all wheel drive burnouts. Unless you want to spend 6k on a dogbox, get that idea out of your head quick. You'll break gears or ruin your clutch in minutes.

seriously, man, you're asking all sorts of conflicting questions, we're just telling you what we know. 4 wheel burnouts is bad for the tranny & clutch (read- A LOT of strain, not just twice as much as FWD/RWD, but more) and not the reason most people will do the swap.

Why not make your dream something you can put down on paper instead? Say, a sub-13 1/4 mile or 300 whp?

We're just trying to help, please don't take it the wrong way.

I think just owning a Legacy means having something not alot of people have. I mean, cmon, how many of your friends are dying to go buy that 4 door sedan of their dreams??? heh Its not exactly a popular car among the 16-30 year olds unless youre goobers like us on here.
